Mutant Chronicles

I Don't Know About Chronicles, but it's Definitely Written by Mutants
If this isn't the worst movie ever made, it's in the running. And such a cast! I bet the poor luminaries suckered into this thing hide it somewhere. I bought it because it's sci-fi and because I could watch Thomas Jane flex his biceps. What I got was scenes of WWI doughboys playing trench warfare with crab-armed alien monsters, interspersed with nonsensical scenes of John Malkovich as fearless leader in an ivory tower somewhere in the world, and Ron Perlman as warrior monk in unnamed monastery atop some cold pinnacle...because we all know spirituality only happens in monasteries located on unreachable, frozen mountaintops. But this monastery wasn't so unreachable that the lumbering monk couldn't gather to him a rag tag assortment of talented misfits, deadly rejects of society that included the cynical ex-soldier and two beautiful, mysteriously gifted women. Any of this sound familiar? Even worse, this crawling cliche of a sci-fi movie is done without logic or natural progression of plot. Let's see, there's the 'bar scene', several shots of terrified citizens running for their lives and left behind to die, and a tortured alien in bondage in the monastery turret. But my favorite vignette is when Malkovich, whom I assume to be a world leader (never clearly explained), is surrounded by scythe-armed mutants who have dragged their grunting bodies around like zombies, and have overcome all obstacles (never shown) to kill him. His last words: "Do you have a name?" What? Really?Of course, our hero Jane is the only survivor, and doesn't look too pretty when they finish with him, but he saves the day as hero do, even cynical, reluctant ones, and the aliens leave after he turns off their 'machine' that turns humans into claw-armed aliens. Don't ask how. And don't ask why. I don't remember if Jane is cured of his nihilism in the process. It doesn't matter. I just wish I could get my money back.

If you know anything about history, warfare, or weapons you will hate it. The visual representation is amazing.
Forget what you know about physics, history, warfare, tactics, and weaponry. This movie is meant for the Steam-Punk crowd. The story is interesting, the visual effects are great. Big actors. Just sit back and take it in. Is the time 2700s or 1915. the dress, weapons, houses are a mishmash of a variety of times. Some of the weapons are original to the film, others, are well, I saw a grease gun in there. WW1 trench tactics? First Jesus was a corporal, no a lieutenant. One guy is introduced as a lieutenant and then a captain. Again, don't read into it and you will enjoy it. For the rest of us, all the writers needed to do is let us know how the tactics, weapons, etc went back to the early 1900s to make it a little easier to enjoy. The actors get 4, the visuals get a 7, but the story gets a 1, therefore I gave it 3 stars. Amazon, let us rate the different aspects of the art you present here.

Very fun watch
This is an absolute Syfy channel Gem! I love the look of the movie. Its very dark, gritty, and almost comic bookish. Much like the movie 300 looked. The acting is pretty good and there is alot of good visuals. Very good and frantic action(sometimes cheesey and cliche) but with lots of gunfire and sword play. The cast of this movie was what kind of confused me. Everyone does pretty well in this movie. But how did they get Thomas Jane, Ron Pearlman, and John Freaking Malkovich to be in this???? Well played Syfy...Well played

A seat gripper!
Not taken too seriously by all, this movie was fun to watch. The cast is impressive and the acting can be "tounge in cheek" at times. There is a stable storyline that remains true to its premise for the duration. I don't remember more than a couple of jump scares to laugh at your self over. It was very entertaining and I enjoyed it a great deal. I never got bored or looked at the clock because it was well written and kept me emotionall atatched to both the characters and the story. Hats off to all involved and many thanks.

A must for apocalypse fans
I only caught part of this movie on the scifi network, so it didn't make much sense then. Now I got to see it from the beginning, and there's nothing difficult about the plot line. Granted, they left some obvious things unsaid ... like why a sword would short circuit the mutant's bio-chemistry while firearms projectiles just blows right on through without doing too much damage. Being a former Jarhead, I pay attention to the little details.Other than that, it was dark, gloomy, apocalyptic, and had enough going on to keep a scifi junkie engrossed. Some people knock the movie because there's no way a coal-driven technology could be that advanced .. right?Wrong. It's all about driving the compressors. The whole technology is slapped together from old archives from the past. Notice the buried skyscrappers from our own era? So it's a lot of fun seeing this alternate technology thing in action. It's scifi folks .. and it's a morality play .. ignore the things you can't explain and enjoy the show. I sure did.

due to quite a few genuinely good performances, e specially from Ron Perlman
Underrated, due to quite a few genuinely good performances,e specially from Ron Perlman. The special effects are very cheap, and for some reason they decided to make half the movie take place in almost complete darkness (not good for an action movie), but overall it's a compelling story, with good performances. Far from perfect, but deserves much higher than the 18% it has on rotten tomatoes.

I liked the acting
In a post apocalyptic world caused by an alien machine that turns humans into mutants, a team infiltrates the stronghold of the machine to destroy it. The character development of each team member is more the center of the movie than the actual 'quest' type movies, I liked the acting, and it was neither gory or excessively violent. It was a pleasant quest story without the usual shock and horror of most of todays films.

Not my cup of tea but to each their own
The acting from what I watched of it was actually good but I don't like the way the director cuts from shot to shot to intensify the action and literally using the same death sequence 4 times in under 30 seconds it's just too much. There is violence and gore but it's not focused on too heavily. If you don't mind the way the camera cuts during the action scenes you may like this movie I did not.

An unpretentious low-budget steampunk SF movie
This is an enjoyable unpretentious low-budget steampunk SF movie. The human race seems destined for certain annihilation due to the unleashing of mutant humans by an alien machine hitherto buried undisturbed deep underground in Eurasia. The machine has been reactivated during a battle between two of the four corporations which now rule the earth and all seems lost as a limited number of people desert the planet for Mars leaving the remainder of mankind to their fate. However, there is one slim chance to defeat the enemy. Ron Pearlman’s Brother Samuel has an ancient book which shows what needs to be done and is able to put together a band of highly trained soldiers for a suicide mission akin to the ‘Dirty Dozen’. An intriguing feature of this film is the numerous references to ‘faith’ and how it can overcome cynicism and hopelessness. The sequences in the underground tunnels have a distinct feel of the Lord of the Rings’ Moria as the band are attacked by the orc-like mutants and the early trenches scenes are particularly effective, especially the close up combat. This is a strange little film which could definitely become a cult classic.

The Mutant Chronicles. Blu-ray edition.
First of all if you are a fan of the game Warzone Mutant Chronicles and if you are any kind of Warhammer Fan then you are in for a very big treat I have to hand it to first of all and by that I mean big surprise that Im sure accurately speaking from a sci fi action perspective you will love if you are into that kind of thing. But however second just one thing though and that being that if you already have the dvd version of this movie there is literally no difference between this blu-ray and the dvd literally none at all so having said expect no better if you are buying this.

I Don't get paid to believe just to......
Mutant Chronicles is a sci-fi/steampunk/war B movie. An Ancient machine that creates world destroying mutants lies buried beneath a seal which was set there hundreds of years ago,the legend of which is protected by a monastic order who hold the book that tells of the dark times when the machine was originally stopped. Fast forward to the year 2707 and corporate war is ravaging the earth. During an artilery barrage the forgotten seal is broken and the machine is working again sending out mutants to kill and bring back humans to make more mutants. The keepers of the seals knowledge set out with a group of harderned soldiers to once and for all destroy the machine. The films setting has a definate steampunk feel with many of the early battle scenes having a the feel of WWI trench warfare. The weapons and flying vehicles in the film are steam powered. Most of the special effects are CGI driven but considering this title is a low budget B movie they work really well. The Visual quality on Blu-Ray is very good. Occasionally you get a slight grainy feel but the whole setting for the movie is dark and steam filled so this is a by product of the setting and not a bad transfer. The Audio is HD DTS multichannel and is very good quality my small gripe would be that the sudden changes for whispered talk to artillery bombardment can have you grabbing for the remote to change adjust the sound level so i eventually used the autolevel feature on my blu ray player to help with this issue.Extras on the disc are sparce but thats not unusual for a B movie release like this. There is a 25 minute making of with interviews with all the main cast which include Ron Pearlman Hellboy [Blu-ray] [2004 ],Devon Aoki(who played Miho in Sin City - 2-Disc Edition [Blu-ray] [2005 ] Sean Pertwee who seems to make a fair few B movie films like the excellent Dog Soldiers [DVD] [2002 ]. There is also 7 minutes of behind the scenes camera workNice to find something in the B movie range with a budget price. All in all 1 hour and 45 minutes of good value B movie Fare. Hellboy [Blu-ray] [2004Sin City - 2-Disc Edition [Blu-ray] [2005Dog Soldiers [DVD] [2002

good storyline
I was not really sure of this film for several years but having watched it a few times now I find it has crept up on me. Ron Perlman really stands out in this film which I think is on a par with his Hellboy roles. I am glad to add it to my collection though I don't know if it is classed as horror or science fiction I like it.
