This is a great book, why do reviewers think you need more ...
This is a great book, why do reviewers think you need more text to ruin something you see! Seriously, the preface was atrocious. I bet my 11-year old niece could write something better and shorter, a writer the author is not! But I write this not to bash the author who is a photographer.. I think(couldn't get through the ridiculously long life-history that was the preface), but to make a point that a photographer should stick to photographing! Thank you, author, for not writing more than you did. Each page has at least two photos of a building, small text to the side: Name of building, Location, Year, Architect. Also on each spread is a quote related to this style of architecture, which gave just enough humanity to both the book and buildings, a very smart move!Any Nihilists out there eat your fudgeing hearts out. To say these structures are imposing, brutal, unforgiving, would be correct, but maybe just a bit of disservice. They are all together philosophic, immortal, conscious. What I mean is they don't revel in their imposingly "brutal" nature, they are aware of such and transcend themselves. They command only to themselves, and in such sense become their own entity. When a creation has the power to exist outside of its creator, the creator becomes.. uneasy. That's what these buildings are, they have become something unto themselves, unquestionable–many can't seem to cope with such unease.

Great Book!
Great book. I am a huge fan of this architectural style and this book has some wonderful case studies with high quality photos. Great for the Architects and student alike or as coffee table book for the appreciators.

Rad book, excellent photography, cats like it too
I love this book and spend more time with it than people ever since it arrived on my doorstep. My only complaint is it does not say in this book if the structures still exist. I’m making my own notes on that in the margins as I sit alone with my cats.

A Beautiful & Extensive Collection of the World's Most Breathtaking Brutalist Architecture
This Brutal World, is, by far the most extensive collection of brutalist architecture I've seen. It's a gorgeous book worth every penny. I want to frame every picture in this book and hang on my wall, that's how good it is. And of course, it features my favorite building of all time, a Paul Rudolph classic, the Orange County Government Center in Goshen, NY

Not just for coffee tables...
An outstanding example of brutalist architecture examples from around the world. This book puts it all together with a great intro, TONS of spectacular photos and clever quotes sprinkled throughout. Some people hate brutalist architecture...this book will show you the error of your thoughts.

Was hoping for more
This book is essentially a series of pictures of concrete architecture with a few quotes here and there. It offers no insights into the brutalist movement, it's evolution, theories of brutalist architects, or insights into construction practices. While it does have a lot of nice black-and-white photos of concrete buildings, some of them aren't even what would be classified as brutalist. I was excited to get this book it, but I basically thumbed through it for about 30 seconds and put it on my shelf. It will be a design reference, and nothing more.

Beautiful, simple
my friend described it is kind of printed version of Tumbler. If you want to know more, watch the Jonathan Meads thing, also good.

Exceptional book
This is an truly quality book. Whilst I’ve only had time to read the introduction and have a good flick though, I can say that this is a beautifully put together book. It’s filled cover to cover with lovely moody black and white photos of Brutalist buildings with each having a caption to say what and where it is. The book is well made and is a piece of art in itself really. If you like photography and Brutalist \ concrete architecture then you’ll love this book - I share this interest with the author, along with his music taste which sounds identical to mine. Very pleased with it!

It is hated by traditionalists
Brutalism is an interesting period in architectural history. It is confident and confrontational. It is hated by traditionalists. It is feared by conformists. Have no fear, because the west has lost the kind of confidence and the "dare to confront" kind of spirit that spurred brutalism. The book is very well laid out. Fantastic pictures. A must have for people who are interested in this unique cultural phenomenon.

Big, high quality images, and very artistically inspiring
Gorgeous big book that takes you to faraway places in history and culture. Perfect to inspire you, esp if you're any kind of artist. High quality. Big and heavy like a road of concrete on your coffee table - fab
