Highly Recommend
The logs came and were packaged nicely. While I sat down to write this review, my second box was just delivered...I kid you not...LOL. We keep them stored in the garage, and they have a nice clean scent, similar to a candle shop. The other fire logs we have used, gave off a stronger scent which was somewhat unpleasant, but we could live with it. These Earth Logs are a little smaller, and store nicely. Again, a very pleasant faint smell.Having a new chimenia, I have experimented with different fire logs. Earth Logs burn cleaner by far, and produce very little smoke once the wrapper is consumed. No problems lighting the log...sometimes I use a solid fire starter, and sometimes I use a little paper with Squeeze'n Light Gel. The gel can be purchased on Amazon as well. Once the log burns, it goes to town, with very few embers. I can only speak for our chimenia's fire burning characteristics. The burn box is not very large, so I would have to have a fire grate custom made. Instead I use Fire Bricks...they too may be purchased on Amazon (what isn't). I set the log on top of two fire bricks, and this allows a nice cavity below to supply fresh air.The log burns right up to the very end. I have burned 4 of them already, and it appears uniform. It burns completely for at least 2 hours, with a very nice flame running the entire length. It will shrink a tad as it is consumed, and the ends will burn through first usually. As they fall off, they continue to burn brightly, and the remaining center piece takes off because the new ends are now exposed to more oxygen. What ever the reason, it continues to burn brightly. Heat wise, it is hot. Fire is hot, so I can't say it burns hotter, but it definitely burns clean, lively, and bright. I am seeing a nice trend here. The other logs burned OK, some longer because they were 3 hour logs. Thing is, they smelled, and gave off more smoke in our chimenia. The Earth Logs I am reviewing will burn out, usually with the center portion caving in. After that, a little more smoke till it settles down into a heap of red glowing ash. The Earth Logs burn completely as the competitor's logs, but the Earth Logs while completely consumed, leave more ash to clean. We are only talking about very little ash overall. It is gray, and sort of fluffy. Clean up is a snap.Earth Logs state they burn with a pleasant smell. I have a very acute sense of smell, and found there is only a light hint of a scented candle smell at best while it burns...still a home run. Low odor is what I am after. In summary, while a bit more expensive, and with a two hour burn, these are just what we were looking for. Extremely clean burn, very little smoke, store well, burn completely once started, and a nice, lively, and uniform flame. Finally, in the early stages...while the wrapper is burning, lots of crackling sounds. So there's your crackle...LOL.The instructions point out, nothing else should be burned with these logs. Ashes not suitable for gardens, not for use in wood stoves or BBQ's. You should place the log towards the rear, etc. There is the usual list of other do's and don'ts as well. Like, don't put your head in the firebox to look for the penny you threw in the fire, don't cook your dinner on it, don't say to your wife "Hey Honey, watch this," as you stick your arm through the flames and pull it back quickly. Don't throw drag racing fuel on it, don't try to dry your socks with it, don't light it, and then immediately go out to a concert...stuff like that. So what's the big deal with these logs? Why not just say we like it, and it burns well? When we burned the other logs, I was concerned it would stink up the neighborhood, and soot up the trim on my house. We want to be good neighbors. These Earth Logs IMO, put that fear to rest, and my chimenia will not be an exotic candle burner, or garden planter now that we have these. Your mileage may vary. There are many variables that come into making a good clean fire. Just saying, it works for us. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Easy light, good flame
I have purchase these logs in the past and loves them despite their expense. Easy light, good flame, no toxic odor. This particular set of logs were in cased in heavy stock paper, almost cardboard and they would not light. or stay lit. When I could get them lit after using tons of newspaper the flame was tiny. What a waste of money.Hey Earthlog, would you do something about this? Thank you.

NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING FOR THE PRICE.
I could not get these logs to burn more than 1 1/2 hours. Difficult to start fire without kindling/papers and it smokes. Smoke smells nice but not good. Leaks excessive wax. I will never buy these again. Too expensive for product quality. Sorry. Sounded like a great product. Rebecca

Very hot burning firelog, with a strong scent during storage
If you are looking for a firelog that will warm you up, this is the one.We normally buy firelogs just for the look in the fireplace, but my wife wanted something to warm her up during this last freeze. After looking at some reviews, I wanted to give this one a try.It was well worth it. You can feel the heat from this firelog at least 3 times the distance from the fireplace. The flames are much higher than other logs as well. The heat from this firelog was at such a high intensity that I thought it might actually damage some of the items around the fireplace. The scent of the logs, while sitting outside of the packaging, is quite strong. While burning the log, it is not nearly as bad.

impressive
gave to my friend as gift & we used this weekend! Burns great INDOORS and smells good. No waxy or harsh odor inside, however, slight wax smell outside but since multiple neighbors has their fireplaces going I can't say for sure if it was this.

We would order these forever were it not for the high price.
These smell great and burn fairly well, albeit not all that long. We really like the earth friendly aspect but frankly they are just too expensive for the length of burn time you get from them. It's too bad because we would prefer these to the other types of fireplace logs.

Do you love someone with asthma? Then this product is for you!
The media could not be loaded. My daughter has asthma and I discovered this log at a conference. When it burns it smells terrific and she doesn't have one cough. In fact, none of us had sore eyes or smelled back after a backyard bonfire. It's the best log I have EVER used and now Katie can participate in bonfires!I made this movie in 2012 when I worked for one of my video clients because I wanted the story to get out. The very gracious Earthlog owner sent us some free logs (very kind) because they weren't available yet in Northern California. But now they are here on Amazon and anyone with any smoke problems needs to give them a try. In your fireplace, inside or out, they are a delight.I am buying another case. (I promise, they will make your garage smell good while they wait to be used!)

Great light, great heat
Great light, great heat, great scent... Great product! Can't believe I used the other logs! These don't leave that horrible bonfire stench in your hair/clothes! And you don't get tons of smoke in your eyes! Case of 6 lasted our 3 day reunion/life celebration and I had some spares. Don't think I can ever use those Duralogs again after using these - I'm hooked! Even now that they're home, no horrible smell from the box! Still not sure if you can roast marshmallows over the flames though.
