Bad News from Madasgascar: Vanilla crop under threat, price skyrockets, quality plunges a tad or two
I know the price of vanilla has jumped up due to problems with the crop in Madagascar, but it seems to extend to the aroma of the product. I can remember fifty years ago sneaking a taste of vanilla extract just to get all that vanilla-ey goodness. Nowadays it smells like a chem lab. I read somewhere that you should only use it in cooking, in order to let the alcohol burn off and leave you with the vanilla flavor. Well, I guess that's farming for you. And I bought the cheapest I could find, but it seems the McCormick's smells like alcohol too.

Good product, strong vanilla flavor
It really has a strong vanilla flavor and you can really smell the alcohol. I make homemade vanilla coffee syrups a lot and it really keeps its flavor, better than any other brand I have used.

Choose better
Not a true vanilla. Tastes like pure alcohol. Disappointed
