![Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/715gtRHy9yL.jpg)

Stanley Kubrick s painfully funny take on Cold War anxiety is without a doubt one of the fiercest satires of human folly ever to come out of Hollywood. The matchless shape shifter Peter Sellers (The Pink Panther) plays three wildly different roles: Air Force Captain Lionel Mandrake, timidly trying to stop a nuclear attack on the USSR ordered by an unbalanced general (The Killing s Sterling Hayden); the ineffectual and perpetually dumbfounded President Merkin Muffley, who must deliver the very bad news to the Soviet premier; and the titular Strangelove himself, a wheelchair bound presidential adviser with a Nazi past. Finding improbable hilarity in nearly every unimaginable scenario, Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is a genuinely subversive masterpiece that officially announced Kubrick as an unparalleled stylist and pitch black ironist. BLU RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES Restored 4K digital transfer, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack Alternate 5.1 surround soundtrack New interviews with Stanley Kubrick scholars Mick Broderick and Rodney Hill; archivist Richard Daniels; cinematographer and camera innovator Joe Dunton; camera operator Kelvin Pike; and David George, son of Peter George, on whose novel Red Alert the film is based Excerpts from a 1965 audio interview with Kubrick, conducted by Jeremy Bernstein Four short documentaries from 2000, about the making of the film, the sociopolitical climate of the period, the work of actor Peter Sellers, and the artistry of Kubrick Interviews from 1963 with Sellers and actor George C. Scott Excerpt from a 1980 interview with Sellers from NBC s Today show Trailer PLUS: An essay by scholar David Bromwich and a 1962 article by screenwriter Terry Southern on the making of the film Review: A classic. - One of the best movies ever made. As funny as Blazing Saddles, as tragic as MacBeth. Review: Great collectors item, Great Movie - TLDR: The Criterion case itself was in perfect condition and has cool additions. And the movie is an 8/10. I've seen most of Stanley Kubrick's filmography at this point and this is one of his most interesting. Although he has dove into the war genre numerous times, this is his first and only attempt (as far as I know) at a comedy. And for the most part, it was quite enjoyable! It kept my attention from the first seen and never really slowed down the entire movie. It's a movie with a lot of subtleties and social commentary about War and the Cold War in particular. Peter Sellers really sells this movie and successfully plays 3 different characters that were all loveable in their own ways. My only complaint with this movie is a handful of jokes didn't land with me in particular. But humor is very subjective, so what might not be funny to me, might be hilarious to another. But, this movie also works as a great war film nonetheless. Of you're a Kubrick fan, this movie is a must see. Not as great as some of his other hits, but it is as memorable in my opinion.

Another great collectible from Criterion" Kubrick's masterpiece!
Leave it to Criterion to create a truly collectible edition of Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece of satire and black comedy: Dr. Strangelove, Or How I learned to stop worrying and love the Bomb" from 1964. Chockfull of extras along with a supplement including a facsimile of the "Code R" top secret package that the B52 crew open up, including 2 articles on the film and even a miniature "copy" of the Holy Bible plus Russian phrase book! Highly recommended. Don't buy the old 2001 DVD: the Criterion Blu ray is only $10 more and well woth it.

Dr. Strangelove Has No Worries On Blu-Ray
The Criterion Collection released this brilliant, and still timely dark comedy/satire from 1964 that looks superb in an HD 4K transfer, a definite upgrade from the 2004 Columbia Pictures DVD, porting over those extras, and including many new ones including various new and vintage interviews with the cast and film scholars, and it comes with an envelope marked "Top Secret R" containing a new essay booklet with an authentic looking type-written document, and a mini Holy Bible with Russian phrases, as seen in the film! Directed by the great Stanley Kubrick and starring Peter Sellers in three distinct but effective roles, also features George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, Sterling Hayden, and Keenan Wynn, this remains one of the funniest(and sardonic) comedies ever made, its also among the most audacious., especially with that unforgettable ending....Not to be missed.
