Exact replacement for OE part
2008 jeep grand cherokee 3.7LThis is a precise replacement part that connects from the outlet of the catalytic converter to the inlet of the muffler. You will need a 2-1/2" stainless steel clamp, a sawzall, 2 high grade nuts which are not included and perhaps a bit of patience.Others have complained that the studs (threaded parts) are welded and that they aren't a high enough strength metal. The welds are not a big deal and I could tighten the nuts plenty without snapping. This is not a super high shear joint requiring excessive torque. Simply ratchet tighten firm plus 1 more full turn. The fact that the welded bolts can snap off is kind of a feature should you ever have to replace or fix your exhaust again. Makes it easy to snap off and keep working. You can purchase the nuts and clamps at an auto parts store or online. I replaced the muffler and tailpipe at the same time so my review/instructions are accordingly.Cut the muffler out with 2 cuts. One before the muffler (upstream) and one after the muffler. Cut the supports off the tailpipe that connect to the rubber insulators and remove all or push supports off the rubber. The hard part: the bolts on the intermediate OEM piping are welded on both sides. The nuts are welded on. If sufficiently rusted you could try snapping the bolt which I was able to do to the lower bolt. The upper bolt you need a thin metal cutting blade and you want to stick your sawzall between the seams and cut through the middle of the bolt. This requires patience and other people have used a torch to heat the bolts and snap instead but I don't have that set up. I cut the bolt and hit the nut side with a hammer until the nut broke off clean. You may need to use a metal drill bit to drill into a few places of the weld joints to make it softer. The best way once all existing is removed is to start the installation from the tailpipe, then muffler then intermediate pipe. I did the reverse and had to make minor adjustments here and there. I had 1-1/2" overlap in the tailpipe and muffler connection and used a 2-1/4" clamp. Don't fully tighten clamp until the end.Attach intermediate pipe to muffler inlet with minimum 1" overlap. I lined the overlap of the inside pipe with muffler wall being careful not to extend the pipe into the muffler body. I think it was 2-1/2" but don't remember exactly. Make sure you have all the piping and muffler straight and true. It's a good time to go have a look at the back of your vehicle and ensure the tailpipe is showing at the right amounts and that the cut is properly facing down as designed. Hand tighten your clamp to the dynomax intermediate pipe. Now, the pipe joints you did so far should be straight with clamps not being at an angle and with muffler and tailpipe in proper place. The tailpipe should have been reconnected to the rubber insulators already. The design of the intermediate pipe allows for this connection to the catalytic converter to not be exactly straight. The inner bulb flanges will form a tight seal with each other even at a slight angle. This allows for a little give and take on the downstream connections while keeping them straight and true to each other.Simply slide the bolts through, screw on the nuts and hand tighten. Work your way between the 2 clamps and these bolts, tightening them in a rotating sequence until you achieve proper fit. This part combined with a Walker quiet flow and Walker tailpipe turned out great. It's about as quiet as the day I drove it off the lot.
