Like any good critic
Game Boy World: 1989 recounts early US and Japanese releases for the perennial handheld and features write-ups on both gameplay and quality. There are color photos of the cartridge, packaging and the game itself. I was fascinated by the level of detail, particularly around the Japanese development teams responsible for creating these titles (of which little is known). The author, Jeremy Parish, is not entirely objective, but that is to be expected given that each article includes a review. Like any good critic, he provides context for his opinions and is never unfair. In total, it's a fast, fun and informative read.

Very well done book. Very informative and through. ...
Very well done book. Very informative and through. My only annoyance is I had to buy the book twice, the second time for the "XL" size to match future books.

Fun book, lots of info !!!!!!
Fun book, brought back a lot of memories. Found out details of games I never owned or played. Now I'm going to spend money finding those games and a player ('GB Boy' is a remake of the 'Game Boy' from a different manufacturer that plays the Game Boy carts). Do recommend this book. I also ordered his other Game Boy title with the red cover.

Great stuff.
This gives such great insight into a system that was very important to me.If you grew up on the Game Boy, or just like old games, pick up one of these volumes. They contain a wealth of knowledge and insight into design, the industry at the time, and the limitations of hardware.Great stuff Parish!

An awesome read and great resource
This is an amazing read for anyone with a passing memory or fondness for the Game Boy. The best thing about this book comes from the unfortunate fact that the Game Boy has been largely forgotten today. No one talks about it anymore despite it being one of the most important gaming devices ever released, the world's first truly portable game console.

A bit short on content I thought it would be more info but some pages are void of text of course they have nice full color photos. Overall nice job but wish it had more official info.

Excellent
A wonderful, in-depth look at the early years of gaming's most recognizable portable. Author Jeremy Parish takes a great deal of care in thoughtfully exploring the first year of the device, encompassing both the device's creation and its early library of software.Like all the work Parish creates, Game Boy World is an exceptionally professional and insightful take on game design and preservation. A must-read for gamers who are open to learning something about the history of the medium they so enjoy.

Excellent Layouts
I've read a number of Parish's books and it's a clear a ton of work goes into the layouts. Excellent photography and magazine style pages make this a quick read with lots to look at. Too many gaming books are dry with nothing but walls of text, not here. I really hope to see more books in this series. Looking forward to covers with Play It Loud gameboys in place of the original grey brick.

Horrible

So it begins...
Jeremy Parish is a well known game-journalist and has left his mark for the past 15 years in games-related media like 1up.com and US Gamer. He is also the co-creator and host of Reronauts, one the the best retro-gaming podcast going on for over a decade now.The Gameboy was Nintendo's first foray in the hand-held consoles market. Born at the peak of the Nintendomania of the late 80's/early 90's. Regardless of its huge commercial success, the little console that allowed you to "play with portable power" is the less documented of the early Nintendo consoles.Gameboy World is one of Parish's passion project: a chronological look at everything Gameboy-related. The ongoing project is a celebration of the portable console with all its qualities and all its flaws too.In this first volume, Parish takes us into the first half-year of the console's existence, spending time on every game released in Japan and/or North America in 1989. With tons of details and exclusive original photographies for each entry, there is enough here to satisfy the apetite of a retro-gaming geek.

134 Seiten geballtes Game Boy Wissen
Hierbei nutzt er auch starke Worte wie: „The Game Boy was like the Terminator.
