Sturdy for most soft soil
I agreed to review a set of free tent pegs. I needed new stakes as the ones that arrived with my tent are plastic. These tent stakes are good, sturdy enough for regular non-clay or rocky ground. They have a good tip on them that easily penetrates the dirt and they were fairly easy to pound in. The loop on the end keeps them from disappearing into the Earth in the event you have an overly enthusiastic (snort) 13 year old girl determined to hammer in stakes as if she were nailing on boards. The loop made the two stakes that were hammered stake head deep easier to extract. (Thankfully realized what she was doing on her side of the tent before she hammered in more of them this way.) On the bright side, the stakes grasp the Earth firmly and I got in an upper arm workout for the day removing them.Tested them on hard packed clay and they were harder to pound in. I was worried that I was going to bend one of them, but they held their shape. I am not convinced they will withstand that type of abuse for long. These stakes are not quite red and not quite hot pink. I guess it depends on your perception and the lighting.Good stakes, but not as good as my stake nails at clay soil. My nails work in any type of soil and I must admit I am a little spoiled. Because to me "packing in to a camp" means loading supplies on a pack animal vs carrying the pack on my back, I am not as concerned about having a slightly less functional but more light weight option.

Super Nice Tent Spikes
These are great tent spikes. They go into the ground much easier that those honkin' huge, plastic, yellow ones. They hold the tent in place and are easier to pound into the ground than those skinny metal ones with the bent top,And the red color plus the florescent loop at the end make the spike easier to find if tossed aside a little too far, by mistake) into the brush while putting up or taking down the tent. It also makes the spikes easier to see so you're not tripping over them when you are walking close to your tent and not paying a whole of lot attention to what's in front of you because you're in the woods and there are a couple deer walking nearby and SQUIRREL!!!The Espier tent spikes have a nice storage bag and will stay in great shape far longer than many other types of spikes. Plus, they just look a whole lot better. They come with a storage bag to keep the spikes together. And the bright orange color makes it easy to spot when looking for all of your camping gear in the closet.Super nice tent spikes!!!I received a free sample of this product in exchange for my honest review.

Backpacking tent stakes
Item provided for purpose of review. The vendor should change the name of this product to include the word "backpacking." As an avid hiker, I know that every ounce of added weight counts, especially on long trips. I weighed the stakes with a postal scale and each stake weighs only half an ounce! The light aluminum does not detract from the strength of the stakes. The aluminum is anodized with a red coating to make them extra strong. All ten stakes, including the carry bag, add less than 6oz of weight to your pack. If weight is a concern, these are the ones to buy. I have no doubt they will last through many uses. Happy with purchase and do recommend. I hope my review and photos are helpful to your purchase decision.
