Marvel Avengers Assembly #1: Orientation

Our kids are really into Marvel and our son, 6 y/o, is really into reading so this is great. He finished it pretty quick and is already asking about the second book. Some bigger words he needed help with and the format of characters talking through text and email was new to him but he got it. It's a great story, with great writing and artwork that's perfect for the recommended ages. I think I might even read it now that he's done with it since I'm a bit of a comics fan myself. Highly recommend.

Diving into the MCU lately, I was happy to have the opportunity to read this Middlegrade graphic novel. It sort of has the comic-meets-prose approach: in-between a graphic novel and a regular book. The comic portions weren’t the focus - you get to read emails, journal entries, phone texts, news clips, etc to learn about these characters, mainly Kamala Khan (aka Ms Marvel). Recommended for any kid who enjoys the MCU and wants a hint at some of the characters coming up - or anyone who already loves Marvel comics and wants a good side-story to pass the time.

There’s a really great idea here. It could’ve been something special and I’d love to see more young reader Marvel books. I’m a Marvel fan, but sadly DC puts more effort into their books for younger audiences.Avengers Assembly has pacing and paneling issues with wasted space and pages and pages of boring “snapshots” of text on a website or on notebook paper.There is also issues with the look of the book. It’s colored in gray and off-white which isn’t pleasing to look at and doesn’t feel like an artistic choice. It feels like a lazy budget choice, which is troubling given the pockets of the companies involved here. Then there is the paper of the book which has a slightly thicker than newspaper feel. Not what you’d expect from a hardcover Marvel comic.I hope all of these positive reviews are sincere and the kids are loving it and I’m just a curmudgeon, but I have a hunch many reviews are either marketing or hopeful adults.

My daughter loved this book. The story and illustration kept her engaged. She kept talking about the story all weekend. After finishing the book she told me she can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This is a great Marvel Book! Ms.Marvel is my favorite Marvel Superhero and I think this a great book series for anyone who's a fan of Ms Marvel, Miles Morales a k.a Ultimate Spider-Man or Squirrel Girl!
