The Curious Bartender's Gin Palace

Outstanding addition to your cocktail library
I love all the history, the details about making gin, the personalities, and the info on individual gins. There really is no other book like it. It belongs in every cocktail enthusiast's library. There are wonderful photos and reproductions of lithographs that add interest and elevate the content. But the editing is so bad, there are times I want to scream! Hence a 4* review and not the 5* the content truly deserves. There is a spelling error or the wrong word or something that a good copy editor should have corrected on nearly every page. No book is likely to be completely free of errors (though the New Yorker seems to publish each week without errors). But the volume of glaring errors in this book is very sad, indeed, to see.I admit to being a retired academic and an avid reader (I've also published some books and know how hard it is to be 100% accurate). I may just be a curmudgeon, too, in my old age.If you're interested in cocktails, you won't be sorry to have this volume in your collection. You can dip in and read about what might interest you at the moment.A terrific reference work that is chock full of valuable information.

This is a great gin reference book
This is a great gin reference book. Really more of a history book than a recipe book. I had hoped it would be 50/50 recipes to gin info, but it's really more like 80/20. This is fine, but it really fits more in the category of coffee table book than a recipe book.

Very interesting book. Thought there might be a few more non-classic recipes.

Not as good as his coffee book.
I loved the curious baristas guide to coffee so much that I added all of his books to my amazon wish list, and purchased this one first since I like gin quite a bit.Thereโs still great information in here, and it gives a good history, but itโs just not nearly as enthralling as the coffee book.If you liked this book, and also like coffee, my god, youโll love the Curious Baristas Guide to Coffee.

so I thought it would be a good buy so he could try different gins and know ...
I bought this for my husband as he likes his gin and our local pub has started doing gin nights, so I thought it would be a good buy so he could try different gins and know the history about them. The book is good at telling the story of gin but not the best at what mixer goes with the different tasting gins. I also thought it might have a lot more gin cocktail recipes and that's where it is a let down, not to worry as I bought the bartenders cocktail book for my daughter who is at Uni, so we can use the recipes from that book.

very interesting book
Can't get hubby away from it. He says it is an entertaining, historic and very interesting book. Quite surprised at how many pages it contained - was expecting a much smaller volumne.

Very interesting and informative.
This book is mine of useful information. It focuses on all aspects of gin, including details of all the main gin brands. Well researched and written in a very readable style.
