GUCCI WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL DOG!
The film was well done. It was poignant, heart rending as well as heart touching & presented the problems with the old laws, which did not address the issue properly. Any sentient life form deserves to be treated humanely. None deserve to be tortured, beaten, burned, starved to death or dealt with in any way that hurts them. Kudos to all those individuals who made it their goal to change the law so people who commit such atrocities will receive just punishment. As much as I appreciate the purpose of this film, am in favor of the laws that passed, & believe such treatment should be treated as a felony, I want to make people aware there are times (hopefully very rare) when animal cruelty laws are misused.I'm not talking about the examples shown in this film. There is no excuse for humans to treat dogs (or any other sentient life form so cruel.I'm referring to instances when these laws are used as an excuse to quickly take control of livestock instead of going through the appropriate legal process. I watched this happen to a couple I know. The lien holder persuaded the local police to charge this couple with animal cruelty even though it wasn't true. Instead of taking samples of blood from a number of the live cattle (there was a herd of over 200 head of registered Angus cows, calves & 2 breeding bulls), blood was scraped from the nose of the one dead animal on the scene. Instead of using a special tool that takes a core sample of hay, a police officer stuck his arm into a big round bale of hay grabs some of it & pulls his arm out, which results in the sample being stems since the seed head of the Timothy grass & the leaves of all the various grasses & clover gets pulled off on the way out. None of the samples were sent to the State laboratory for testing. .The samples should have been collected by someone who was qualified to do so.Just something viewers should also keep in mind With that said . . .Kudos to all those who were kept at it for years in order to get these animal cruelty laws passed/strengthened to properly punish individuals who do such horrendous things to dog & cats.i

Poignant and Real
Wow.There are simply no words to describe the gravity of this documentary, but I will try.If you read the description, this seems pretty cut and dry. We expect a dog to overcome a serious act of cruelty involving abuse; it's fair to say that the trauma this dog has experienced in the first 9 weeks of his life is more than what some people experience in their entire lives.Anecdotes related to 'Gucci' and his relentless spirit is paired with commentary regarding the laws that need to be made in order to hold and keep people that abuse what is one of the most vulnerable populations of our society accountable for their actions; the analysis of the complexity in passing legislation that most of us would call 'common sense' is delivered in a way that suggests that all of the people in any given community - not just those involved in the criminal justice system - have a role to play when preventing and campaigning against the maltreatment of our furry friends and neighbors. There is some graphic material that is hard to stomach, but one person interviewed said it best:"We want to look away because it makes uncomfortable. But you have to. And you should."This is definitely on my list of must-see documentaries!I would recommend!

This is a must see to make the world a better place
This was a real film with a real issue. It was presented in a way that you could watch it, even though it brings tears. It brings, to the forefront, the horror of abuse and push writing laws protecting animals. This is a very good teaching tool. I am an animal advocate , in Connecticut. I am a member of Desmond's Army. We have a law in Connecticut called Desmond's Law that was passed in 2016. We all can make a difference. I suggest showing this film while teaching compassion or animal advocacy. Very, very well done. Important to pass this along. Evil almost always begins with animals and escalates to humans. Mass shooters almost always begin with hurting animals.
