kids love it
We have Sneaky Sheep and the Monkey with a Toolbelt series, and now we have this one! I like the other Chris Monroe books just a little better than this "Cookie" book, but I still love it, and I would definitely recommend it. I love the artwork, and the way the author conveys what the characters are thinking...and I like how she lists and has the characters give examples, as if the characters are using logic and reasoning in their thinking. I think it's a smart book and it's so funny! She also uses "talking balloons" for what the characters are saying - comic book style. I like that. The kids giggle and like to read certain one word phrases in the book, like "Snacks!" or "Treats". I would recommend this book for ages 4 - 7.

All of her books are so fun to read with the small kids in my family
Chris Monroe has a sense of humor and style that is unique, and suits little kids and adults alike. All of her books are so fun to read with the small kids in my family, and new details in the illustrations pop out at me every time I read it to them. We own every title of hers, and look forward to more.

very funny
This is a very cleaver, very funny book! I love how the author has the friend Kevin get slighted by the "big shots"!

I love it!
Gosh, children's literature is so subjective. I read the other reviewers review but don't agree at all. I loved Cookie the Walker-- both the writing and illustrations. I've been a huge fan of Chris Monroe since my sons and I found Sneaky Sheep, Monroe's wonderful book about some sheep who run away from their trusty watchdog Murphy and get into all kinds of trouble. Cookie the Walker is also fun and quirky. This is beautifully illustrated with a memorable, off-beat plot. None of it offended me or my children. I'm glad to see something that is not cookie cutter and predictable and I enjoy Monroe's bright colors and deadpan expressions for her characters. Other readers might consider looking up "Big Little Brother," a gorgeous book Monroe illustrated last year (Kevin Kling is the author.) Big Little Brother is by far my favorite children's book -- and I read many. In all of Monroe's work, including this new book, the pleasure is in the details.

ha ha funny.
Not only was this book entertaining but there was a character lesson to be learned too. I remember now why I don't want to be famous. But I do like an occasional treat. Fluffy towels especially.

Cookie Crumbles...
Cookie is not an ordinary dog, instead of walking on four legs like a normal dog, Cookie walks on two. As she shows off her walking skills, she garners the attention of several people who ask Cookie to perform various feats for payment in treats. With each new trick, Cookie is asked to do even more... from tricks at a dog show to a circus and TV, Cookie becomes more famous; soon being a busy TV show star is much too much for a little dog. Will Cookie crumble under all that pressure?Author and illustrator, Chris Monroe, tells Cookie's story through colorful pictures arranged like a comic book. The book introduces some new vocabulary words, giving parents, teachers or librarians an opportunity to start a conversation with young readers about what they mean as well as friendship and taking on more than you can chew.I must say that I didn't really like the style of the illustrations and I don't know if this book has what it takes to become a favorite. I don't know if the topic of a jaded, burnt-out star is something that kids will enjoy and understand... even if it's a dog. There are also a few pages where the dogs are drawn in profile, but it looks more like someone just forgot to draw in a second eye, giving the dogs a scary cyclops look; it just looks wrong.A Kidz-Readz Blog Review

Clever fun
We LOVE this book. The best kind of silliness, especially if you're good with voices.
