Q: This says min/max, but looks like it is not that? Anyone? Is this a min/max thermometer or not?

We have two of these and they are very accurate. One side shows outdoor temperature and the other side is indoor. No min/max. Very easy to read.

Q: Why is this labeled as a max/min thermometer when it is not one?

Its not max/min. Just a reliable no-frills thermometer.

Q: Where does the small metal piece (that uses 2 screws) go?

There is no small metal piece that uses two screws. The two screws provided go in the wall and the thermometer slides over them. The metal cylinder on The Wire goes outside to measure the outside temperature. It simply hangs there.
