Powerful, enlightening personal history of an enslaved girl.
An excellent moving account of the trials and tribulations of a young woman, struggling to free herself and her children from slavery. An engaging, detailed narrative, suitable for young adult readers and anyone wishing a deep understanding of American slavery.

I Couldn't Put This Excellent Read Down!
I am so glad that I decided to purchase this book! It was such an excellent view of the horrors that one woman had to endure during her time as an enslaved young girl and woman. It is told in her words and is so hard to believe if you do not understand the depth of her suffering along with millions of other Africans in this country. Please (if you are a true history buff on the Black experience)get this book.

educational and informative
Though I was hurt and embarrassed and shamed by what I read, I am grateful for having had the opportunity to do so.

The story is one you should know
To try to imagine her life is quite impossible as we sit here living the life we live. The hate and ownership people felt ( and unfortunately still do ) comes to you in a way you really can't ignore and then dedicate yourself to trying to stop every ounce that may linger in our society. Real it. Then pass it on. All. All people deserve kindness and help and consideration. We have a lot to go around and share and give. And make up for. Yes we do.

Should Read
This book was written by a woman who personally experienced slavery, therefore, for me it made it more real. She states her experience in a matter of fact way and does not ask for pity and is not accusatory but instead conveys the feelings and emotions that are coupled with her circumstance. There is no fantasy or make believe this is a real account of a woman's struggle and how she beat the odds. Well worth the read.
