Deluxe Wood Carving Kit S18X

This is a good selection of knives, with a convenient pouch to store them and carry them around. I got these to give spoon carving a try. It includes a gouge that I hardly ever use and a bowl cutter that I use a lot to scoop out the material in the bowl of the spoon. Be careful when using it on hardwoods, as well as softwood spoons I've carved one spoon out of walnut and another out of red oak. If you slip with this particular knife the results might not be pretty. Don't ask how I know this. Operator error aside, the blades work well, they are nice and sharp right out of the box, and the set is a good place to start if you want to try wood carving.

Where to begin? These knives are razor-sharp as advertised AND they hold their edge quite well, even putting up with the abuse I (as a new whittler) gave them. They are ergonomic and obviously manufactured with care and quality control (unlike 99% of the "mystery brands" you see on Amazon these days). I love that this set includes a full-spread of knives, from chip carving to spoon/hook knives, you're set - everything you need is in this case, even polishing compound! The leather case is HANDSOME , super thick, gorgeous leather. I'd buy this set just for the case it's so nice. Beyond being pretty, it's nice because it protects your knives and more importantly protects YOU from them. There is no accidentally reaching in and cutting yourself with this case as there is an internal flap that lays over the blades you have to lift. I bought a chisel/gouge set from Beavercraft and a bunch of basswood too, i was so impressed. this set is affordable but nothing to scoff at in terms of quality; i think any seasoned carver would be happy to use these knives! I later found out this is a Ukrainian Company - all the more reason to support Beavercraft; small businesses like this are going to be the backbone of the new economy once the goblins are vanquished. Buy them. They're great!

Very good bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it

Good, heavy leather roll to protect your knives and whatever you store or carry with them, which is good. These came sharp, with only a little stropping needed to get to work. I was glad to see that they hadn't been lacquered, as some knives I've bought from other companies have been. Very nice set and I'd recommend them for beginner/intermediate carvers. And BeaverCraft is such a considerate company, they've included bandaids in every order I've purchased through them. LOL

Great for beginners! Easy to use and sharpen as needed

The blades were very sharp right out of the package. The leather tool roll is very well made and for me it seems a bit overly bulky. The variety of knives is great as I am learning about different carving techniques. I was really disappointed this morning when the hook knife snapped while I was scraping out the inside of a walnut spoon. I consider myself reasonably fit, but for this tool to break was a surprise. I had hollowed out the spoon with a Forster bit, then used paring knives to shape the hollow of the spoon. I was using the hook knife to shape things further and then *snap* I’ll be searching for another brand of hook-knife since this was my first purchase of this kind of tool and I’m not sure how durable they should be. Update: vendor reached out via Amazon and they are sending a replacement. Great service! Update#2 I received the replacement and the hook knife has been working great. Honestly I was expecting a replacement for just the hook knife- but I received a replacement of the full set I originally purchased. Vendor definitely went above and beyond!!

Lovely set of carving tools in a good quality leather roll. Great handles and very ergonomic to hold. I’ve not had chance to use them yet but the blades look sharp!
