Steps and Stones: An Anh's Anger Story

The students are easily engaged by the story
I am a school based social worker and I have been reading Anh's Anger and Steps and Stones to students in grades TK-3rd Grade. This book creatively teaches anger management and self-management concepts in a non-judgemental way. The students are easily engaged by the story, the characters, and the illustrations. The illustrations clearly show children that spending time with ones anger and managing it the right way will help it fade and get smaller. The students are then able to talk about anger that enters the classroom and how long it stays. They students stop me in the hallways to talk about this book, and when I am coming back to read the sequel. The students also can create anger art projects to reinforce the concepts in the book. Now the students are interested in the trilogy, and I will read that to them next year. Thank you to Gail Silver and her Illustrator for the fabulous book I can share with the kids in Los Angeles and will request that our Librarians carry it!!!

Positive way to deal with anger
The story carefully illustrates a realistic cause of becoming angry and a positive and realistic way to deal with that feeling. It is both interesting , informative and entertaining. Really like this author's point of view.

Wonderful Purchase
What a fantastic book! My son just turned 5 years old and he regularly pulls this book off his shelf for me to read to him. Like all people, my son sometimes struggles with his anger and this book has actually helped with that. The idea of taking time to breath has been very helpful and I think it made him feel better to see the boy in this book crying when he felt mad/sad. My son will sometimes say his anger monster is visiting him and we'll breath and pretend to blow it away. How wonderful for children to know it's okay to be angry and also to have the tools to feel in control of what can be a very scary emotion. Love this book!

Excellent series on
I lead a children's group at a local Zen Center. Each session we read a different book. I have read many, if not most, of the Zen and Buddhist books for children. In my opinion, the two Anh's Anger books are the best. They are concisely written, age-appropriate, and beautifully illustrated. Mostly important present a simple, solid teaching that kids can use. So often in Western culture, anger is viewed as an enemy, something we have to suppress or conquer. In Steps and Stones, Anger is not an enemy, but a companion to be acknowledged, accepted, and handled skilfully. Being a friend to Anger does not, however, mean always doing what Anger wants to do! The children in the group love the Anh books. I like Anh's Anger slightly better than Steps and Stones, but I rate both 5 stars.

Great social story doe kosa
My son has ADHD, gets angry easily. Social stories has always worked with him and this one hits home for him, he relates and reflects and in his own way implements what he reads. I love these books.

fun, stress free one
We haven't been on a vacation in years and really wanted a memorable, fun, stress free one. We snorkled everyday in Roatan and these snorkles were amazing! They never fogged up, never filled with water, and did not obstruct our view at all. We let several people try them out and everybody said they were going to order one. They just make snorkling so much easier!

good before bed reading
5 stars for steps and stones, only because we are not offered more... both my (6-7 yr old) girls love this book, and it is great to read aloud, with lovely pictures. It makes a nice change from the other series books for their age group, and while imagining along with the story, they are also feeling and reflecting on things in their lives that are similar. I like to slow the story down and take a mindful look at Christiane Kromer's mixed media collage illustrations as we go along. The girls decided by themselves to breathe in and out with Anh in the story, so I stretch that out a bit too !

love it but more for kids who are six and up
love this book. It kind of reinforces the fact that anger goes away after a few minutes. During which you deep breathe. This book would work well with kids who are a bit older as younger kids do not really get the concept of anger and time.
