Cat Scratch Guards
I am very happy with these cat scratch guards. I just wish I had purchased them sooner and saved some wear and tear on two of my chairs. They are protected now and the guards are working beautifully, my one cat has given up scratching the chairs and is using the scratching posts! I definitely recommend them.

Simple, Low-Tech, and Functional. IT WORKS!!!!
Our new cat was wrecking our sofa!Yes, we bought him his own scratching pad, which he uses and seems to love. He also scratches often on a thick Persian carpet we have (which is fine, since the carpet is so thick that his claws don't make any effect.) He has scratched up an old beat up couch we have in the den--- which is also fine, since that couch is so old and ratty it's nearing the end of its days. Even with all these other places to scratch, though--- he still insists on scratching our nice, expensive sofa! We've tried everything to dissuade him. First, I would yell at him and try to scare him while he was scratching that sofa. He would run away when I'd yell.... but later on, he seemed to have no memory of this unpleasant event, and went right back to scratching the sofa! Next, we tried water guns. I felt bad about this--- it's mean--- but we gave it a try anyway. When he scratched the sofa, we'd shoot water at him. He hated it, and ran away, but again--- the next day he went right back to scratching the sofa! We tried an unpleasant smell. It did not faze him in the least. Finally, in desperation, I tried these furniture scratch guards. I had no hope they would work.Voila! Problem solved! So, basically, these are four pieces of thick plastic, about 11 by 4.5 inches, with twisty thin metal screws. You place the plastic over the place the cat is scratching--- usually the corner of the sofa--- and tack it in place with the thin metal screws (which don't injure the sofa.) That's it! The cat tries to scratch, but can't scratch the slippery plastic--- so soon gives up and goes elsewhere. You can barely see them on the sofa. (The one problem I had was that right beneath the corners of our sofa, there was very little padding, so the screws didn't have anywhere to screw into. I sort of tacked them into the wood underneath the cloth. It worked.)This is the best kind of product: simple, low-tech, and, above all, FUNCTIONAL!I would recommend it!

Does NOT work for leather- despite the included "leather option"
I have a leather couch which one of my cats is shredding. Many protectors say they are not suited for leather, but this one has a "leather option" included. Did not work at all. The packet of stickies did not stick to my couch for more than a few seconds, and then the whole plastic piece is off. I tried to also tuck it in the sides; no luck. Do not get this for leather; it DOESN'T work.

The concept is good to protect your furniture but . . . . .
I recently bought new furniture and I have cats. Well, the two don't exactly go hand in hand as the cats like to claw the corners of furniture. So I found these cat scratch guards and thought I would try them out. Well, they kinda do the trick but I found the tacks that come with the plastic protectors are hard to screw in. You can't nail them in as the screws on the tacks go flat and you can't pull the the spiral. They just don't seem long enough to actually grasp the fabric and the wood. I'm going to try to use tacks for upholstery making and see if that will make the plastic more secure as when my cat went to scratch, he pulled down the plastic. Not exactly what I wanted to happen. Also only 6 screws are provided and you need much more to secure the plastic down flat against the furniture. The quality of the plastic is fine for protection, but it is a bit pricey as you only get two pieces of plastic plus the 6 screws per package. I went to a local fabric store and bought a 1/4 yard of the same thickness of plastic and used one of the guards as a pattern and made my own for a fraction of the cost. The overall concept of the guards is good but the price is too high for what you can make on your own and the fact that the screws are not long enough and you pretty much have to be creative to make these work are the reasons why I gave guards a three star rating. If I could, I would give it 2 1/2 stars. Sorry.

Worked for our cat
Our cat tore up the corners of our old couch, so I got these when we had it recovered and so far they're working...for him. I guess cats have different scratching habits. This cat liked scratching the old fabric at the corners where it went over the wooden supports at the back corners of the couch; he's not interested (so far!) in other parts of the couch. So I put these where he used to scratch the old couch just to prevent damage to the new couch although maybe he doesn't like the new fabric anyway--he's picky and wouldn't use a scratching post either. One thing I would have liked to know before I ordered these is that each protector has the dimensions listed (18 x 4.5 inches), but the picture of the item (at least as of this post) shows one protector stretched around a corner. So for our couch I needed to use two protectors for each corner--one on each side of each corner--because this cat focused on a wider area on each side of the corner. Also, the spiral pins worked fine for our couch but the heads of the pins are frosted and so they're not as inconspicuous as the clear plastic of the protectors themselves. Not a big deal for me but they are noticeable. Overall a good product, though, and I'm ordering more for our other couch.

I keep coming back for more!
As my cat keeps finding places to use as a scratching post, I keep ordering more of these protectors. They are discreet, easy to install and very effective at keeping my cat at bay.
