Everything you need to know is in THIS BOOK!!
Two thumbs up! I’ve been waiting for this release since it was announced last year, and I have to say that I was not at all disappointed. I did't find it repetitive at all and it has the same great quality as The Science of Black Hair book (which I also have in my collection!). I have been transitioning off and on for a few years now, and have been a member of SO many blogs and sites. I just haven’t been able to make transitioning stick, even with the support of my stylist. (Do you know how rare that is??) It's tough out there and I can’t help that I am worried about what friends and family will say (maybe we're just a judgmental bunch, but I highly doubt I'm alone in this). With the information in this book and the help of youtubers like CharyJay and Naptural85 (you guys are amazing by the way), I am so much better equipped to take on the challenge of transitioning. I especially like the information about getting your mind right because the mental side of transitioning is something that so many people brush over, and this is where I've needed the most support. This book cover to cover, leaves no stone unturned. I also like that the author provided helpful lists of products and brands that are fully natural/organic/gluten free. As I transition my hair, I am also transitioning in other areas of my life too, so this is helpful all around. My favorite bit, the transitioning timeline! Loved it! All the information is in one place, neat and compact with photos, drawings and diagrams to impress upon key points. There just aren’t any books out there like this for transitioners now. Trust me, I’ve looked and have a library full!Hopefully I will be able to report back when I have fully gone natural. Good luck to all you beautiful people on this journey with me! We can do this!

Transitioning
I was about to purchase The Science of Black Hair when I came across this book. I was elated and pleasantly surprised to find you wrote a book that specifically deals with transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. Thank you so much for writing the book and for listening to the feedback from reviews! May God bless you and continue to use you to teach women of color how to embrace their God given glorious hair. I decided to transition because I was tired of fighting my hair and not being able to do things like go into the steam room which I love to do. I knew the process would not be easy and would require a considerable amount of time and patience which you do address in the book. I have good days and bad days but it is a learning process. I am in my seventh month and get excited when I see that my own natural loves to be loved. I can't wait to try some of the products you list at the back of the book.

A Must Read for Transitioners
I'm reading this book after the fact of the major part of my transition. I wish I had this book when I started transitioning my hair, it would have saved me a lot of trolling on the internet for information turned misinformation. Every woman transitioning from perms to natural should really do their research FIRST to make sure they're getting good info and understand the emotional rollercoaster one could end up on. It was well worth it to read through it to see what I missed, which was a lot of excellent info about pH of products and how hard water can negatively impact your hair over time.

I was transitioning when I purchased this book, and I must say that it helped me tremendously. Though I knew that I was not interested in going back to a relaxed state, I still had no clue as to when I planned to cut my hair, or what to expect afterward. Reading this book helped me to make an appointment to consult with an experienced stylist, and I ended up cutting my hair that same day. I don't think I would have had the courage to do it so soon (and I love it) without the valuable and encouraging information I received from this book. I hope that each person who is considering going natural will take a look at this book, because it kept me from losing my mind in frustration due to the enormous amount of information available on numerous websites. This book put it all together in one place, and for that, I thank you, Audrey.

Gives Nice Tips On How To Take Care Of Transitioning Hair
Book is nice, because some in the natural community are doing things that can become harmful such as water washing or co washing, using homemade protein conditioning in which the protein molecules are too large for the hairto accept them. The book also stresses that hair chemical relaxers are just as damaging as ever, the author when she wrote, " The Science OfBlack Hair", her hair was damaged at that time from chemical relaxing. Also, permanent hair coloring is still damaging Afro textured hair. Most Afro textured hair hates rough detangling with combs, most Afro hair loves moisture and oil.

A must have resource for transitioning ladies
You could bounce around the hundreds of sites on the internet dedicated to transitioning and natural hair,or you could choose this book and find all of that info plus much more. Her scientific explanations of hair anatomy and chemistry are easily understandable. She explains the importance of moisture and protein balance. Most importantly, she explains that transitioning is truly a mental journey as well as a physical one.Instead of promoting hair products, she focuses on stressing hair health. Length and retention will both come if the hair is healthy. Kudos, sister!Thank you for helping me on my journey.

Good introduction and foundation for transitioners
This book is a good introduction and review to transitioning. I have been transitioning for 9 months and still found the book very helpful and concise. Its an easy read, finished the book in 3 days. Yes this information can be found on natural hair blogs and youtube videos, however I found it very helpful as all the information is in one place. I especially like the authors review of hair porosity, elasticity, and the balance between protein/moisture. I highly recommend this book for fellow transitioners as a good foundation.

You need this book!
I bought this book while transitioning. It helped me along the way. Now that I'm completely natural I still refer to it from time to time. It was the best natural hair purchase I made!
