Works perfectly!
Just plug it in and it works. Audio and video are both great. Can switch from 720p to 1080p on the fly (though of course with the composite-quality input you can't tell the difference anyway). Quality of the video going through the converter was at least as good as without (doesn't seem possible that it would be better, but it looked that way!). Can't comment on longevity since I just tried it out before writing this review. Note that you will probably need to use a USB power supply to power the device as, at least on my TV, the power supplied by the HDMI connector was insufficient. They do supply the cable but not the USB power source, which seems a reasonable tradeoff. I paid $17 for this and also bought the JMDAY version for $13 (just to have a spare). They appear to be absolutely identical, clearly made by the same manufacturer (even the manual is identical), just with difference labelling on the box. So save a couple of bucks and get the JMDAY one instead of this one, but really they're both super-cheap for what they do.

Works great with older composite systems.
I've been using this for over a month now to convert the composite analog signal of older game systems like my Nintendo Wii and Game Cube to a 1080p digital signal. My LED monitors only have HDMI connections and they won't accept any signal below 1080p. The Cool Digital converter has worked perfectly every time that I've used it. I have used it with capture cards as well and I've had no issues. If you are reading this then you already know that there are several other products that look near identical and Amazon. While I cannot comment on the quality of those products verses this one, I am satisfied with this product. It was midly more expensive than other similar looking ones, but I figured if Cool Digital is willing to put their logo on the device then they are going to be more likely to stand behind their product should something ever go wrong. With the mix of reviews I read and watched on YouTube about these products before I bought this one the little extra money this one costs is probably worth it.

Lag but better than last one
It works ok for the price. There is still a noticeable lag that I thought would be something I could get used to but it isn't. I tried the mini version and the lag was bad. The lag is better on this version but I need to keep it at 720p to because 1080p was bad. I would press the button to jump on my SNES and by the time it jumped in the game I was already dead. I connected back to an older tv and it was fine. I decided that I will just keep an older tv around until there is an affordable, high-quality solution. They exist, but they are expensive. If you have a standard HD tv it might be fine but my newer hdtv and my uhd tv both had this lag. I have an old hdtv and it works. So your mileage may vary.

Good video for 1080p and no tech support when it dos not work
The 720p has video noise on right side . When I first purchased it I thought it was my old laserdisc player, but when I selected 1080p the video artifacts went away. There is no tech support given or website given in the box. The only reason I give it three stars because the picture quality is good when you select 1080 p. I regret that I did not send it back. I hope some from cool digital read this. I want be by another one of your products. I can no recommend this device. After further review. I have reduce my rating.

Works VERY nice for retro-systems!
I have been looking for a device to convert my old C-64 video signal to my HDTV. I tried the AV2HDMI device, which sells for around $10-$12... ya get what you pay for! It did not work for the C-64, no picture at all and for my retro systems (Genesis, N64) produced a terrible image.I purchased this device with better hopes. It is VERY solidly made. It creates a very nice picture even from a standard composite signal. I have ordered a C-64 video cable with S-video source, I imagine the picture quality will be even better!!! Good purchase!!

Great picture for this price point
This is an update to my original review. The first unit I received would not output a signal. CoolDigital contacted me and sent me another unit. The picture quality is actually really good. My experience with other upscalers in this price range have been mixed. Usually you get sound issues or problems with blurring/deinterlacing during movement. The CoolDigital has not shown any of these problems. For reference: I tested this with an N64 and GameCube using S-Video. I tried it both at 720 and 1080.It's kinda impressive how well it handles rapid movement. It makes this upscaler my new #1 choice for using with older game systems. No more eye strain from the picture constantly blurring.

Worth every penny because it allows one to utilize classic VCR tapes
Awesome! Works as expected. I used it to connect smart TV and sound system to old VCR. The sound system amplifier has HDMI connections. I had to play with different configurations on converter to get video and sound to work when playing VCR tapes. My VCR does not have S video so I had to connect video out on VCR to CVBS on converter. Then audio out on VCR to audio L on converter and audio in on VCR to audio R on converter. Then I connected converter via HDMI cable to sound system amplifier. The only down side of this product is if I leave it connected it interferes with tv picture quality so when not in use I must disconnect the power source and HDMI cable.

Not impressed...
Upscale conversion is very poorly implanted, using 720p or 1080p takes the incoming video and stretches the left side to fill the screen. Even if your TV has a feature to scale 720p/1080p to 4:3 you can still see the video being stretched. It's even worse if you try and use a video capture card as most capture cards will not allow the incoming video be converted into 4:3.Overall not impressed, will return. It's getting very difficult (if not impossible) to find a video upscaler that would allow you to keep 4:3 ratio especially if you want capture or record to your computer.

This is a very good product. It is compact and has solid metal ...
This is a very good product. It is compact and has solid metal construction. Inputs and outputs are conveniently and logically located, and are well designated. The power adapter is conveniently quite small. For input selection, and output video format selection, there are two push buttons. For video output format indication an LED is provided which turns red when 720p is selected and blue when 1080p is chosen. Importantly, the last input and format selections are maintained if power is turned off and back on. The unit works with PAL or NTSC.This device must convert 480i analog signals to digital and to 720p or 1080p scan rate, and then output, including audio, in correct video and HDMI formats, with the best resolution it can. This complex task it does very will for a very reasonable price. For use with my TV set, I found it necessary to reduce contrast, brightness, and color using TV setup controls to suit my taste.Subjectively though, I have yet to see via HDMI, the type of conversion that this unit accomplishes, succeed in fully displaying, in the resulting television image, all detail that is provided in the 480i S-Video luminance signal, as well as this detail is displayed, when an unconverted S-Video signal, is connected directly into an S-Video input of a TV receiver that accepts S-Video. Granted, there are more video lines, no longer with spaces between them, but detail is mildly faded, softened, not as crisp. Possibly, highly intricate and expensive interpolation can overcome this, but would be impractical for the purpose. So it would be truly unfair and over demanding to actually criticize this device for that reason. And now television receivers no longer have S-Video inputs. That is that.I like this product. It does what I require and I certainly recommend it.

Does what it says on the tin
Works like a charm. I bought a Wii with PAL output, not realizing it wouldn't work with my NTSC TV. I bought this device, power it from the USB port on the back of the Wii, and the HDMI output works perfectly with my TV.
