Q: are you sure the depth of this pan is 3.5 inches? the weight is 9lbs and color is white?

According to my measurements, the pan is 2 1/4 inches deep (measured from the inside), and weighs about 2 pounds 10 ounces. The 9 pounds listed on the details must refer to a shipping weight. The pan is not white but stainless steel inside and out with an aluminum core -- the standard All-Clad stainless line of cookware. This is a fabulous pan -- we cook for two and although at first we thought it might be too big, or too unwieldy, it has turned out to be one of our most used pans. The inside curve of this French skillet (instead of the sharp angle of a standard skillet) makes for smoother stirring and sauteeing. It cleans up like a dream. Worth every penny!

I have both. The sides of the frying pan spread out, more like a wok (only shallower than the french skillet). The sides of the french skillet are more straight up and down. Performance is the same. Honestly, I prefer the look and functionality of a french skillet. It's all based on cooking style. If steep sides get in the way, go with the frying pan. These days I'm using a 20 dollar Lodge, cast iron skillet more than any of my All-Clad pans. I love the high heat, and searing and browning affect. It just needs 3 minutes longer to heat up before cooking compared to my All-Clad.
