The Slinky isn't a slinky. Its just a bit of curved flat metal. It does not work at all.

We are as happy as we can be (with the new versions) with this Slinky. Read all the other reviews on all sizes, and this one is the closest to the original one we had as kids. (Not exactly GIANT, probably closer to the original). It will walk down stairs with some encouragement...not as easily as the ones from 50 years ago, but from my research, it appears as tho the length was shortened some years ago making the "walk" on normal stairs less successful. The kids are happy, so we are happy.

Thanks to a couple of the other reviews, I've finally found the slinky of old. The Giant Slinky is, in fact, the original slinky. It's made of metal, about 4 inches wide, and really makes that "slinkety sound". I don't think it's as "long" as it was way back when. You can't set it at the top of the stairs and just push it over and watch it walk. You set it on top, and pull about the top half down to the middle of the next step. After that gravity does it's job and it slinks down the stairs. It's awesome and entrancing for any age group.
