What is the best method of hanging the clock? Do I just use a nail or something else?

It's difficult. First of all, the clock is very heavy. Then to align the hook I used with the indentation in the back of the clock was hit and miss. In retrospect, I should have used a nail or screw. Good luck!

It says the lens is made of glass. Is the lens actually glass, not plastic? What are the numerals made of? Are they plastic or aluminum?

The lens is glass. I cannot say for certain but believe that the numerals are not metal. The body is metal.

is this clock silent non-ticking?

Your hear absolutely NOTHING. Some non ticking clocks have motor sound and if your close to it, you can hear the motor. Not on this one!
