Light fires like the pioneers!
My son's thoughts on this productThis was my first flint and steel striker and I love making fire like a pioneer! The striker and flint work great, I have used it countless times and the only sign of wear are small scratches on the steel striker. As for the flint, the company actually sent me two pieces which were an added bonus, because I thought it only came with one. A nice thing about this kit is that it does come with the flint, which lets you actually touch and see what flint looks like so that when you are out camping, it will be much easier to find on the ground. In addition to flint, I have also used quarts to strike a spark and both work just fine with this striker. Once you have this all you need is an empty Altoids can and an old cotton shirt and you can make your own char cloth, and then you can begin making fires with a little practice!

Miserable Little Flint that Barely Sparked
I was sent to miserable little flints and barely sparked. I had to go back online and find another kit that actually worked, meaning, that allowed me to start a fire within less than half a minute. I do not recommend this product.

Great striker!!
Ok, I'm VERY impressed with this striker!! FINALLY a company that knows what the heck they are doing. This striker is a real spark thrower, I consistenly got my punkwood tinder going with ONE to TWO strikes of the flint and there was zero gouging of the striker face which tells me that they have the heat treat done very well. As soon as I can I'm going to get a couple more just to have as back ups. I like this striker!! A+ quality !!

Nice But,
Yes it works and the striking surface is ample. I found it a little awkward to hold in my large hands. My solution was to add a handle. (3/4 x 2 x 2-1/2 piece of wood with 1/4 inch chiseled slots. The two prongs pinch the wood between the slots Careful of slot depth for snug fit. Now it is GREAT! It is a little much as a carry around striker, but perfect for the hearth. Your mileage may vary, but I would suggest a handle of sorts.

Combination of great striker and good sharp flint
Combination of great striker and good sharp flint. Sharp rock is necessary to shave off the metal that makes the spark. I have an old piece of flint from my boy scout days and it is so worn down I can hardly get a spark any more. This striker could get a small spark. I make my own char cloth and char wood, so I did not want to pay for stuff I don't need.

Steel Sux
Y'all need to check your steels. The flint was good, the steel, not so much. I could get the flint to spark my knives, other strikers, and an old file, but not with the steel provided. I basically paid for a rock.

The steel is in great shape and very easy to hold and use
The steel is in great shape and very easy to hold and use. I used the flint and steel with some char cloth for a demonstration for a Boy Scout troop I work with and it was a big hit. For those not aware, the flint does wear out and flake as it is used, so you will need to either find some more or buy some more.
