The Little Hippo: A Children's Book Inspired by Egyptian Art (Children's Books Inspired by Famous Artworks)

I used this book for my Preschool class while studying Ancient Egypt. It helps them understand the belief system and the beauty of the culture.

I fell in love with this book immediately after seeing it in Paris at the Louvre. Not wanting to carry it on the rest of my travels, I ordered it on Amazon and was pleased to see it was quite a bit cheaper. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous and the sweet story brings to life a treasure from Ancient Egypt--a blue hippo statuette, which is on display in the Egypt section of the Louvre. I got it both as a special memory of my visit to the Louvre and to read to my fist graders. A wonderful way to acquaint them with the arts is through children's books like this one. The illustrations really are beautiful.

This is a great book for the classroom

Beautiful book with lovely illustrations. The story is a bit contrived at the end. I don't think my third graders really understood all of it but they did enjoy the connections with Egyptian art.
