Harvard Common Press The No-Waste Vegetable Cookbook: Recipes and Techniques for Whole Plant Cooking

Interesting international cooking book
Sometimes I would like to comment some reviews...The book has a very nice introduction, I’d love to read what Ly wrote and her family traditions. The book doesn’t claim to be vegetarian either vegan, to be organic or using kitchen scraps and it has no recipes about long storage canning. The writer shared part of her family values that are similar to mine even if I’m Italian and not Vietnamese and my parents where telling me “we don’t waste food because in Africa there are kids dying of hunger and we should be grateful for all we have”. That’s being conscious about the environment and our imprint more than a vegan environmentalist that eat out of season veggies shipped from all over the world. She doesn’t use food scraps for her recipe, she uses the entire vegetable and sometimes the plant (peas shots or tomato leaves). It helps to use parts of the veggies we are not familiar with and enjoy them with flavorful dishes. The book is full of tips and ideas. There are just few quick-pickling recipes and they are meant to be eaten after 4 hours or the day after, so there is no reason to stress about safety.I like to have new recipes to try and new ingredients to experiment with. I enjoy the idea to reduce even more my kitchen scraps, even if I even chickens, a worms farm and a compost so they weren’t completely wasted.I’m very grateful she put the effort to write and share her experience and experiments. I might start to follow her blog too, she is definitely an interesting person with nice life goals and she deserves to be supported for that.

fun to read and money saver
fun book. I'm real cheapskate when it comes to food, that is, waste not, want not. Book reminded me of what I can do with what I and others throw away. the picture is of the squash blossoms which can be a treat if you save them from your squashes. Now I save all veggie peelings, freeze them together in a freezer bag and eventually makes the best soup, or other add in for stew, sauces. Many other fun ideas. She needs to write a book about other throwaways, like chicken fat, bacon drippings, odds and ends meats. Worth the read.

Great concept
I am new to this idea of eating the entire plant. I love the author's own story which she shares in the book. I love the photos and the recipes shared. This isn't an extensive cookbook but I believe it is enough to get you started in this zero waste kind of cooking.

I wish I had had this 40 years ago.
All of her recipes have been so good. The idea to use all of the veggies, every part, is eye opening. I am richer now with the knowledge and experience of Linda Ly. Very well done.
