A good book to start talking about sad
Our son's school lent this book to us after our dog was killed. This book, in addition to "Dog Heaven" helped us to discuss sadness with our son.I would agree that this is not the most engaging book. I changed the name of the girl and our son identified the rabbit in the illustration as a dog (our dog had the same color combination.)I think for a subject like sadness kids really respond to something simple, and even a little "preachy". This may not be a very entertaining book for adults, but our boy asked for it every night for the first two weeks after our dog was killed.

We Felt Disappointed
I was actually very disappointed with this book. I got it to help teach my girls to better understand their feelings. I think kids should understand that although we try our best, sometimes life does not work out. What better way to teach this lesson then through a book. When I got the book I was all excited to read it to my girls. The cover is nice and colorful and the illustrates are adorable. My girls loved the cover and so we go to reading. The first page introduced a frog and that was cute. That was as far as it went.If you have the opportunity to read this book you will understood but after getting past page 3, my girls felt like I was lecturing them. There was no understating of feelings and how people feel but rather how this boy felt. They went though various situations and with nothing interactive. I had a hard time reading it and my girls had an even harder time listening to it. As a mater of fact reading this book to my girls taught them the lesson about feeling disappointed. They were greatly disappointed that did not like the book.Books especially for kids should be exciting and interactive not confusing and lecture like.

Helping a young child going through a loss
This book will "help" a young child going through a grief process. Well written and very empathetic. Probably good for preschool age through about six years old, or so. A child older than this would like the book, but would need something more substantial. The illustrations are excellent. Not only does this story acknowledge the feelings of sadness, but it gives a few age appropriate suggestions for dealing with it.

let's talk about feeling sad
This book is great for the young and old. We all experience sadness at sometime or another in our lives. This book will also encourage children who are suffering from low self-esteem. It can be used as a tool to get them to talk about their feelings. I highly recommend all of Joy Wilt Berry books.

Let's talk about feeling disappointed
All of Joy Wilt Berry books are highly recommended by me. Children as well as grown people experience disappointments. This book will teach the young how to handle the disappointment in the right way. As the book is read by an adult to the younger child the reader will be moved by it's truth.

Great book!
I work with many children who struggle with behavior and emotional problems. Working with them individually about various issues and they might experience with their siblings or at school, this book proved to be very helpful! Joy Berry is just a great author of these books!

Great book to read to our preschooler (who is obsessed with trains) to deal with feeling upset and disappointed. Good choice.

Left feeling disappointed
It seems this book is targeted at an American audience. The language is too advanced for my child and I find I have to replace words and read it my own way. It's not well structured and there are too many scenarios for a child to comprehend. On the plus side it sets the scene for explaining a complex feeling to toddlers. Just don't rely solely on the book!
