Less an atlas, and more an encyclopedia
For a book titled “Marvel Universe Map By Map” and subtitled “An Atlas from Asgard to Wakanda”, there sure is a dearth of maps. I was hoping for a gorgeously illustrated book full of maps in the Marvel Universe but was disappointed. However, it does contain sixteen commissioned illustrations that depict, usually in an abstract style, locations within worlds or cities. The book is organized by worlds (Prime Earth, Lost Lands, The Cosmos, Ethereal Realms, and Other Dimensions) and by locations within those worlds. For example, Prime Earth has Manhattan, Atlantis, Wakanda, and Central Europe. This organization is the most atlas-y thing about the volume. Within each sub-location, you get a lot of small-type text with a comic book frame or two per page. The text comprehensively describes the comings and goings of Marvel events and characters within those locations. It reads much like an encyclopedia. Many locations are not currently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and are only found in comic books. As such, I would recommend this for serious Marvel fans only. I do not count myself among that group and cared little for the details of the Lost Lands. That said, those hardcore fans will likely enjoy this immensely.Despite being confused by the title and not part of the target audience, it is a beautiful and well-written book. It has a large, coffee-table format and the illustrations and comic book clippings are fun to browse.

Beautiful, accessible atlas of places within the Marvel Universe
This is a beautifully illustrated Marvel Universe atlas, with some of the most important places (like Manhattan, Wakanda, Genosha, The Savage Land, etc) from the comics/movies/shows. I really like that it is a mixture of old and new animations from the early days of Marvel in the 1960s, all the way to present day artwork from artists who are still active today. The entire book is over 230 pages, but there is a lot of art and graphics, so it wouldn't take that long to read through it. It is perfect for Marvel fans to place on their coffee table, so you can introduce your guests to the vast Marvel Universe and all of the locations within it.It mostly focuses on Earth 616, which is the Prime Universe, where the "default" versions of the heroes and heroines we know comes from. The Marvel Universe itself is a multiverse, meaning that it is a universe of universes (or different timelines). However, the last section in the book is dedicated to locations from other dimensions and timelines. Another thing that this would be good for is a simple, fun way for a parent to introduce their kids to Marvel and all of the neat places that exist in the hearts and minds of the true believers.

Nicely Crafted, Dynamic, Plenty of Illustrations ...
This oversized, eye-grabbing book is a homerun for lovers of the Marvel comics. The drawings/illustrations expound on the comics' geography. And, undoubtedly, the text is as expansive and comprehensive as possible (while remaining within the confines of a single, manageable volume). In fact, the massive amount of information presented here is fairly monumental. The information is cleanly divided into well crafted chapters. And, while it is a small touch, if you ever forget where you left off, just look at the top of page and there is an indicator at the top of every page (centered). This is great because it acknowledges that invested readers will not be able to complete this exploration in a single sitting.Everything is reproduced in authentic colors and everything is carefully broken up visually to prevent reader fatigue. In this sense, the book itself is very dynamic and designed to move quickly. This is impressive. The children had a great time learning from this. A very cool gift for the kids!
