It is 1/5 inches. I worried it would be too wide for some belt loops, but it fits all I have tried so far.

Hello. I'm a fit 170 lbs and wear 32 pants. I bought a size 34 and I'd say its perfect. My belt has 7 holes and I use the middle hole - this means I have 3 holes in either direction for adjustment. If you don't plan on letting your husband gain weight, you might want to consider the 32. I hope this helps. Edit: I just read some of the other reviews and would like to add the following: If your hubby weighs less than 170 and is lean (no love handles), I believe the 34 would be slightly too long.
