Ok, here's a caveat: I was not paid to write this review. I paid full price for the item and am doing this review completely unsolicited.I am a big Star Wars fan, and the marketing in this case worked, and worked beautifully. There are other lighters like this on Amazon and on sites other than Amazon, including Ignite's Arclighter. I have an Ignite lighter that I bought directly from the company because the model I wanted (that looks like a Zippo) isn't available on Amazon. My complaints about THAT lighter are that it's pretty much made with the assumption you're using it to light CIGARETTES, because that's the size of the coil, which is the SAME as an automobile cigarette lighter, just smaller, and the fact that if you order from Ignite, it comes from freaking HOLLAND. Ignite is in Edmonton, Canada -- why does the lighter come from EUROPE? It took a month to get it. THIS lighter from Amazon arrived in TWO DAYS. Now on to the SaberLight.I liked this lighter because it DOESN'T use a coil, so you can easily and very quickly light ANYTHING you need to light -- candles, splints, incense sticks, paper, tinder, gas torches, anything that can be inserted far enough into the gap to contact the arc. That's right, I said "arc", because that's what it is. While technically the atmosphere in the arc has its electrons stripped and becomes a plasma, it isn't the plasma that does the lighting, it's the current from the arc that does the igniting AND also creates a plasma. A plasma is not by definition hot, though a plasma can BE hot -- a plasma is a state of matter and you can have a COLD plasma just as easily as a HOT one. So plasma is not what makes this lighter work, it's a by-product.The lighter came fully charged in a gorgeous box, along with yet another short micro-USB cable, which I tossed in my junk box, as I've got dozens of nice, long, quality braided-cover micro-USB cables all over the house on multiple power bricks, so I don't need this little dinky cable. But thanks for including it, as some people don't have so much electronics in their house they're like a roach in a radio like I do. Tech is my life, and it's EVERYWHERE, along with books and sci-fi culture items. Hence the fact that I'm a huge sci-fi fan and Star Wars fan, which made the marketing of this lighter so perfect in snagging my dollars.But therein lies my first complaint about the lighter. DO NOT assume that the arc between the contacts will look like the picture on the product page -- it doesn't. The picture has a short stub of LIGHTSABER BLADE matted in to punch up the name. It doesn't actually look like that. It looks like a thin purple wire of light between the contacts, but it isn't straight and it isn't saber-blade shaped. It curves, and it moves, and it's never the same shape twice. In the product picture, it looks like a tiny Mace Windu purple saber has snap-hissed out of the contact on the right and is pointing at the left-hand contact like a Jedi aiming at a Sith's heart. (I totally call this my "Mace Windu lighter" because of the color, but hey, I'm a total Star Wars fangirl.) So if you're expecting it to look like the picture, don't. It doesn't look like that.That, however, does not interfere with how well the lighter works. Like I said, it arrived fully charged. It doesn't require instructions; flip open the lid the only way it will flip, then push the button on the side. The arc zaps between the two contacts with a quiet hiss. Stick your cigarette, or candle wick, or firecracker fuse, or whatever between the contacts and touch it to the little purple lightning bolt. FWOOSH! Your item catches fire instantly. It's THAT fast.The Ignite lighter with the hot metal coil can take several seconds to set something on fire, and it may just smoulder until you blow on it to make the flame spring up. It works, but it's SLOW, and that requires more juice from the battery to achieve. The SaberLight takes almost no time at all. The arc is so hot that the material touching the arc zips up in temperature past the flash point in microseconds and FWOOSH -- flame! Not coals, no smouldering, it's just WHAMBO! On fire! Right the hell now!That is so wonderful. When I want a flame, I want one right now. If I want to fiddle around with it, making a coal I have to blow on to speed up the oxidization to make a flame, that's too slow. I might as well make a bow drill and blister my fingers making a coal. THIS lighter makes flame and makes flame at the speed of light, because lightning. If I wasn't so busy trying to convince the smokers in my family to quit smoking because I've lost TWO family members to cancer from smoking, I'd be buying them these lighters. As it is, I'm going to suggest it to my prepper friends so they can get them for their go-bags. 100 lights can save your life for a long time.If you have a way to recharge the lighter, so much the better! A power bank, like you'd use to recharge your cell phone, works like a champ to recharge this lighter. A solar panel will recharge it (if it's the right voltage and current) -- one designed to recharge USB items, well, that's exactly right because this is a USB item. For my prepper friends I have already suggested two indispensible devices: the FlameStower and the CandleStower. By Stower Technologies, these thermoelectric devices make electricity from heat. The FlameStower has a metal blade you insert in a flame, from a stove or a campfire or a candle or whatever, and fill a little expandable silicone tank with cold water. The differential between heat and cold creates a current flow, which you can use to recharge things. The CandleStower takes it a step further: It has a little pot or saucepan on a handle with the thermoelectric element in the bottom. It snaps into a little stand with a liquid fuel wick candle in it, similar to a chafing dish candle. The fuel is diethylene glycol, which burns but only wicked up in something. A puddle of it won't ignite so it's a safe fuel for lamps and chafers. The pot is filled with cold water, you light the candle, and the differential makes electricity. I suggest charging a power bank with it, then using the power bank to charge anything...including your SaberLight, which you used to light the candle, thus replenishing the charge so it never runs out! THAT is called "sustainable". Use a lighter to make a fire to cook your dinner and make electricity that you use to recharge the lighter. You get dinner, maybe a cup of coffee or tea, and the lighter recharged...maybe even your cell phone recharged too.You know what that's called? A virtuous circle.I definitely will recommend this lighter to my friends, but especially my Star Wars friends, who will want a Mace Windu lighter too. If you aren't such a Star Wars fan, and don't care that it's a "SaberLight", there's other brands of arc lighters out there. I don't have any of them, so YMMV, but they probably pretty much the same.

I just happen to look up this lighter again if it is still available, coz I wanna buy another 1. I had this lighter for 17 months, and use it daily for cigarette smoking. I didn't even realize that its been this long that I had it and still works like it is new. My friend gave me a Tesla coil dual arc lighter after seeing this. But i broke that lighter, after like 6 months when it accidentally fell into a bowl of soup .But this SaberLight, is so sturdy, well built, and even worked without any problems after getting wet and drenched in my pocket as I sat under the rain for about an hour.I charge this lighter maybe just once or twice a month. Thats all I need to have my cigarettes be lighted every time, not even rain or wind can stop its arc. No need to have a bottle of lighter fluid, or buy one of those disposable lighters (which always got taken by "friends"). I had so many instances when I really want to smoke but then my zippo is out of lighter fluid, especially during winter time, the fluid dries very quickly. So I decided to look for a better alternative than the traditional lighters. And with this, even if I ran out of charge, when I'm at work, or even driving on the road, all I need is a couple of minutes of charging time, and that is enough for me to light a cigarette and keep my sanity :)

This is so convenient. Don't have to worry about it being too windy like with regular lighters. Only caveat is the sound takes a bit to get used to. It makes me cringe a little. Like nails on a chalkboard type thing. It's this tinny, high pitched sound. But I gave it five stars because that's not too big of a deal for me. Especially since I'm not having it on for long periods of time, just long enough to light my cigarette. I also love that it is rechargeable. It's a little heavy, if that's a drawback for you. For me, it just feels about the weight of a 9-volt battery. I would also say that I tend to be a little clutzy, and using this over a traditional lighter makes me feel safer. The push button mechanism is so easy and fool-proof (actually, now that I think about it, it's a little too easy. I could see it being easily pushed if in a bag/pocket/etc. especially if there are other things that could press it. Since it has the cover, I'm not sure if this is a horrible thing but I'd rather not test it out. I keep it in my cigarette box so I don't have to worry about that).If I could take off another half star, I might. The case it came in is nice except the back part wasn't glued properly (the cover part, I don't know the technical term). If I had been planning on giving it as a gift, this would have been a drawback. But I wasn't, so it isn't. Thus, not enough to remove a full star.

Foremost, excellent supplier!!! Perfectly shipped, arrived earlier than scheduled, and the supplier checked in to make sure I was satisfied; which I greatly appreciate. As for the product itself: I now have my very own "Lightsaber" and, as a huge Star Wars nerd, I absolutely love it! Lights cigs, incense, candles, etc... basically anything smaller than a Cuban cigar with no problem. And it's fantastic in high winds, which given where I live is a frequent problem. It's eco-friendly and cuts the cost of what I pay for lighters (which cannot be recycled) on an annual basis, thereby reducing my carbon footprint and saving me money in the long run. The Saberlight is way better than traditional lighters and even those supposedly "windproof" butane lighters and my Zippo which I'm constantly having to refuel and is just wasteful. At the low price and efficiency, it can't be beat! Plus, it's a freaking PLASMA BEAM!! Google that s#!t and see how cool it is; electrons and protons magnetically accelerated to light speed and just try not to have a Nerdgasm all over the place. I'm a very happy and satisfied customer!
