Good for amateur radio programming usage
I have had this cable already in the past but was unable to find it after a recent move. As I needed to make some changes to the programming of two of my radios (Icom ID-880, Yeasu FT-8600) that require serial cables I bought this again. I will likely find the other cable in the future this will give me two, one for the home and one to keep in the car.This cable also works well for use with Cisco Console cables. I have used this with both MacOS, and Windows 11 environments. With a FTDI chip it is likely it works with Linux and other OS' without issue.

Nice. Easy to use and install with Win 7/8/10
Nice. This usb cable will come with FTDI chip which seems to have a better support rather than the Prolific chip (VCP/D2XX). USB device is fully compatible with Windows 7-x86-x64 (note that WHQL driver here is not the latest). You will have to download and install the latest driver form FTDI VCP driver home page. Drivers for Windows 10 (Windows WHQL 10x86-64 driver) is FTDI latest release when installed by OS automatically. USB VCP driver works pretty well by configuring a COM port. Build Quality of this device is good.

I'm happier with this product than with alternatives I've tried
This product has two ICs: the expected FTDI chip and a line driver part. They are visible through the translucent blue RS232 connector casing.I've been trying several USB-RS232 converters from Jaycar which did not use the FTDI chip I wanted (giving me driver issues), and a cheaper cable from Amazon was pretty much DoA. I'm relieved to learn that this one does what I need, straight out of the box, first try.-1 star for aesthetics, it looks a little cheap and 90s-esque. I'd have prefered black or white.
