Favorite popcorn
These kernels pop so well, and are just delicious. We add olive oil and butter to a pot, and allow the butter to melt. Then we add the kernels, put the lid on the pot, and give the pot a little shake. Then we wait to start hearing the kernels popping. When we hear a bit of a lull in popping, we give the pot another little shake, wait a bit more and continue this until we don't hear any more kernels popping for several seconds. We add a bit of salt give the pot a shake and enjoy. If we don't overcrowd the pot, very few kernels remain unpopped. The price has gone up a bit for this product than what we're accustomed to, but still very reasonable and well worth it for this delicious, easy, and natural popcorn fix. Highly recommend.

If popcorn is, for you, merely the vehicle by which you deliver butter and salt to your heart, skip this review...
If, on the other hand, you abhor microwave popcorn, but you're frustrated at the number of unpopped kernels you get when you try to make it any other way this may be the popcorn for you. I need to use an analogy here. This stuff is to popcorn what Yukon Gold is to the potato. It's tender and flavorful without either salt or butter. <End analogy> Moreover, the number of unpopped kernels left in the pan is infinitesimal. How you pop it is not inconsequential. I use a Teflon coated sauce pan and a minute amount of canola oil. Over a gas flame, I agitate the pan periodically and, as it begins to fill with popped corn, almost constantly. When the popping drops to less than one per second I remove the pan from the heat and continue to agitate it until the popping stops altogether. The resulting popcorn is exquisite. No butter, no salt, no flavoring of any kind. If I do add something, it's hickory-flavored bacon salt. (If I can find that on Amazon I will provide a link here in this review to it.)The only downside for many people is that I don't believe it's possible to buy a single container of this stuff on Amazon. If you can sample it by finding it at a nearby store, that might be best. After that, you and one or more friends can order it in bulk. But bear this in mind. Popcorn is a pretty drought-sensitive crop. This brand, which is grown in much smaller quantities than the regular yellow stuff, disappeared from stores for awhile and only recently began to reappear. So stocking up, within reason, might not be the worst idea in the world.

The only popcorn we buy. Best flavor.
We have been eating Black Jewel for many (over 20) years. It has the best flavor, very few un-popped kernels, and fewer hulls than most. Both the original and crimson are great, but wife likes the flavor of the crimson a little more.We never do microwave packages, but do have a microwave popper which uses a small amount of oil and it pops perfectly. That popper is also sold on Amazon.

You get what you pay for
I love popcorn, its my go to snack of choice for a number of reasons and when you consider you can put a small bit of it into a paper bag and nuke it for pennies compared to prepackaged bags, its even economical. This isn't cheap however, not when you compare it to the same amount of standard yellow corn running you about half of what this costs. The thing of it is though, the taste and texture is definitely superior. It doesn't puff up as large as standard yellow mushroom corn does, but it has a IMHO more pleasing texture to the tooth and tongue than standard popcorn does, and the taste is a tangible corn taste with no styrofoam overtones. I usually do not use any oil when I make mine, as I usually microwave it, but on the occassion where I do use some coconut oil the kernels really shine in flavor as their texture and taste goes extremely well with a little bit of oil, a light dusting of Flavorcal salt or similar fine ground salt and this popcorn makes the regular stuff pale in comparison.A additional comment of note. There are all manner of popcorn makers that people use, this sort of gourmet popcorn does not play nicely with all of them, by that I mean simply that the ratio of unpopped kernels goes down the better your popper is. I have several different poppers, though the hot air one is used exclusively for roasting coffee these days. The standard electric dome popper with twirling arms will pop around half of the kernels that a stovetop popper with a stirring handle does. In the microwave it pops better than in the standard dome electric makers, but not by a great deal, over all the best is to use one of those stovepop whirlytops or something similar. The only reason I don't give this product a 5 star is due to cost, granted you get a very good product, but if it were just a little cheaper the value would at that sweet spot where buying anything else would seem silly.

This Popcorn treat is worth the money!
If you are a lover of popcorn, but you don't like all the hulls that you have to deal with when you pop the common yellow or White popcorn, you really must try this product. The raw kernels are much smaller than the regular kind, and the popped kernels are also smaller, but the flavor is gigantic, crunchy, sweet and buttery even without butter. Just a little salt and it is indescribably delicious. And this bargain price from Amazon is the best I could find anywhere on the net. I searched high and low locally with no luck. And will purchase this again when my supply gets low.

Cracked and open container
We love this popcorn so much, but I was disappointed to receive the package and have 1 of the containers lids was cracked open and popcorn had spilled everywhere. Luckily the other 2 containers were in tact, but a bummer about this one container.

Changed forever!
I love this popcorn! At 65 yrs. old I have easily eaten the volume of an average swimming pool (or two) of popcorn in my life, but never knew what I was missing until last fall when I tasted this popcorn. The flavor is sweet and nutty, and the texture is crunchy - but not too crunchy. I pop it in a glass microwave popper without any oil. After I pop the popcorn I sift out any unpoppped kernels, add a little olive oil and salt and voila' - a DELICIOUS heart-healthy treat. Saltless would be even healthier, but I've already given up the butter, so the salt is a compromise.Recently ran out of my crimson popcorn and had to use conventional white/yellow popcorn - it was almost tasteless and had the texture of styrofoam! I will never run out again!
