Works for exactly as you imagine.
It’s take a bit of manoeuvring to get it on, having to pull it down. On a greased ball id get a rigid one you can push down.

Keeps grease off your clothes and everything it touches!
Bought this because I was tired of getting grease all over my legs from walking around the hitch. And I no longer have to worry about the grease from the hitch ball getting all over everything inside my camper’s luggage compartment either.

Ball protection
I have an adjustable hitch with a 2 5/16" and a 2" ball I don't use the 2" ball but want it protected from the elements so I slip this on with a little grease on the ball to keep it rust free. It works and stays on even when the other ball is in use.
