Testy trials - along with real characters from Dirty Warren, to Underground Grale
Tanenbaum never disappoints. The Carp - Ciampi family (warts and all) is constantly challenged with a new set of terrorists, corrupt government officials, sleazy criminals, and international thugs. Testy trials - along with real characters from Dirty Warren, to Underground Grale, to Vietnamese comrades to the Russian Mafia - makes for great entertainment reads each year. Well plotted and well researched when necessary. Love these books and the development of the different characters Lucy, for example, is unique in suspense reading as she has developed from a curious and unique child to a real spy. And Dirty Warren and his and Butch banter over movie trivia not only highlights a nasty disease which offends people, but which Butch understands and is caring about. Lots of good moral questions as well as when to be ethical and when not to be - depending on whose rules you are playing by in this nasty world. Keep the books coming - great reads

Pretty good
I liked the book and its premise until it got to the part where Karp went to trial against the bad folks - and we had some doozies! Once it got to the point where we knew who did what to whom, it felt like the author said : "well I guess I'll need to wrap this up now." As a lawyer, I always enjoy the trials, but this time it was flat. I expected more. Very disappointing.

Boring
This "mystery" has no mystery - it is a long-winded discussion of the pros and cons of public schools and charter schools in New York City - terrible piece of writing by Tanenbaum (who usually does much better)

Good read
I enjoyed this book for the most part and felt that it was well put together. Not the best in the series, but certainly not the worst either. It was a lesson in redemption for at least one of the characters. All in all, I enjoyed reading this new chapter in the Karp-Ciampi series. Good plot and enjoyed seeing Butcher back in the courtroom.

Love the suspense
I love learning new things and the detail in his writings sure do that for me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Tanenbaum never disappoints
In this episode in the long running Karp-Ciampi series (which I somehow missed) the plot keeps driving, the dialogue is spot on (as always) and the ending is satisfying. The ongoing characters develop both in the book and in the series. My only gripe is the absence of my favorite family member, daughter Lucy, but this is a small price to pay for another great read.

Read to keep up with the series but expect to be disappointed
I was looking forward to the new Butch Karp and Company book. I was disappointed. This book just seemed too direct. In the past there were always twists and turns, betrayals and questions you needed to finish the book to answer. Hopefully the next installment in the series will pick up the pace of previous books
