This book offers a captivating look at a culture that has thrived and grown for thousands of years, yet remains a mystery to many in the west. China led the world in scientific and technical developments for many centuries leaving the west to play catch-up. It also describes the ever changing cultural and political development from it’s very beginnings to present day. Highly recommended read.

This is a good introduction to an overall history of China. A real and complete history would require many volumes. I might use it when I read a more detailed history to refer back and forth to see where the details fit into the over all history of the country. It certainly contains a lot of information that was new to me. Well written and easy for any reader to understand.

The author describes and evaluates the fantastic achievements of the Chinese Civilization and the development of the Chinese nation-state. Moreover, he presents evidence of the brutality of the Chinese Communist Party. It is a well-written book.

A good history book of China , difficult to read and absorb.

This was an interesting summary of the history of China. Very informative but not "dry" narrative. I've always found the Chinese people and culture fascinating and this book helped me better understand them and their contributions to world.

Interesting that Chinese invented so many things throughout the years. Unfortunately their communistic society has not allowed them to really prosper. Sounds a lot like the Democrats in this country. Fully intimidate and harass anybody that doesn't agree with you.

Very informative book tells slot about Chinese history and it's rulers from BC to AD years and ends with the current President of China.
