The London Eye Mystery

Neat mystery
Really well drawn characters, particularly the narrator, Ted. Ted thinks differently to other children and his attention to detail and logical approach makes him the perfect detective. The mystery itself was neat, if a little predictable (for me as an adult - my 10 year old didn’t guess the solution). An east and enjoyable read.I recommend the second book in the series - written by Robin Stevens - which is a perfect follow up mystery, set in New York.

Interesting story line. Some swearing and reference to modern issues.
Reviewers explain Ted's way of thinking well and it is laudable because of this. I do however agree with the reviewer who found the prose style a little trying in places from an adult point of view. I suspect it appeals to a certain type of young reader who is not so keen on description and interesting vocabulary. I had been going to give it to an 8 year old girl as I thought the London Eye Idea would appeal but there are some references that are really better for older, possibly more urban children, and fairly grown-up issues so I thought better of it. However I am sure there are some children who would not be fazed by the issues raised.

Not very good
My son found the book quite dull and repetitious. Lines would repeat themselves quite a bit - he thought it was to pad out the book! Its a shame as the cover and synopsis made it seem a lot more exciting than it was.

Dry enjoyable
Great read and loved the fact one of the characters has additional needs and uses to his advantage in the plot
