Jethro is my fallback. A great value.
I am a computer programmer, but I have to admit that I never made the transition to smartphone, mainly because I sit in from of a computer everyday anyway. If I need access to all those smartphone apps, I just use my laptop! Besides, the screens are tiny and I am farsighted, so that means if I use a smartphone, I am going to have to carry even more items: reading glasses. But I am an adventurous type, biking, motorcycling, hang gliding, scuba, etc. and could find myself in need of assistance during one of these risky adventures. And I do live alone and might need to get help in a car breakdown or a home injury situation. So I bought one of those pre-paid cells and thought, there you go that's problem is solved. No it wasn't. I kept pocket dialing. I couldn't see the screen either. But worse thing was the battery would go dead on me every few days. Since I never used the cell phone except for emergencies, I would always always forget to charge it. So a prepaid didn't work as my emergency phone.Jethro solved the problem. It is a big screen clamshell that is about as inexpensive as a pre-paid, but soooo much more useful. Because it is a clamshell, I get no more pocket dialing. Because it is a big screen, I don't have to carry reading glasses around. I am actually using it a little for taking TODO notes and using the calculator, as well as its great FM radio and flashlight. And its battery lasts more than a week in standby mode! Honestly, I haven't used it yet for a real emergency phone call yet (but I placed several test calls - works great) , but Jethro took my pre-paid T-Mobile SIM with no problems and I was up and running in a few minutes. So if you need a cellphone you can throw in your backpack or glove box in case of emergency, this is it. Plus it is inexpensive, so if you break or lose it, then "No Biggie".

Great Phone
This phone was purchased for my father. I really like the features and for the price it is an excellent deal. It took me exactly 1 month to get everything working on the phone but the issue was not the phone it was me (my first unlocked phone) and Consumer Cellular. The manual that came with the phone is not that good and some things in the manual do not match the phone.I received a lot of help from Jethro. Jeffrey from Jethro is a godsend. He was extremely helpful and always had a cheerful voice. He called me, he sent me pictures, etc. He did whatever it took to help me with my issues even though it was obvious the problem was not on Jethro's end.I really like the phone but the 5 stars are for Jeffrey. I hope Jethro realizes what a great employee they have in him.

I liked my Jethro phone at first
I liked my Jethro phone at first, but then I started having problems. It looks nice, but it doesn't work good when its cold. It doesn't have to be real cold either. Since I like the outdoors, this phone is terrible in the winter. Also, I could be somewhere, and other people are talking on their cell phones, but I get that "No Sevice" message. Sometimes the time goes to military time on its own. I talked to Jethro customer service , and they helped me with settings, but I was disgusted and wanted a new phone, but it was out of warranty , and I would have to pay for it. If it was free, then I would give it a chance, but why send good money after bad money ?

2G service that doesn't work!
I bought this phone to use with RedPocket service. I live in the US, it is a US phone company. Anyways, it took me over 3 hours to get it activated. After that, it didn't work. It's a 2G phone that even when shows the signal bars, has no service. Even in town. I don't believe it's the service, because we had the same service on different phones for years. You can't take a picture without buying a memory card to put in it. I wanted this for my grandma, but I ended up just putting her on my service plan. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone.

bad
everything was great. had a hard time getting the old SIM card to work with it, but Verizon hooked me up.Update Jan 2017:This phone is always locking up for my mom, so you have to always pull out the battery just to get it back working. She has had nothing but issues with this phone freezing every day.

This phone is garbage. It's always saying no service even though the SIM card is inside. It doesn't hold charge, in order to get it to work for a few minutes you have to keep removing the SIM card and turning it off. I wish I never purchase it. It doesn't even deserve the star I gave it.

Buttons are confusing, they don't work the way that makes sense
The phone works OK but the buttons do not make sense. And they don't always work the way the manual says. Google the phone for instructions and you will get workarounds that DO work. It is confusing for someone elderly, because the buttons don't work the way other phones do or what makes sense. I would try another phone especially for someone up in age
