The best history of fashion culture I've read
An excellent fashion history and a must read for anyone with even a slight interest in Japanese men's fashion. The book covers Japan's relationship with American clothing from the pre-war years, through Ivy, the 60's and 70's right up to the current day. Wonderfully well-researched, and extremely readable. The book doesn't stop at the rise of the repro brands such as Big John, but goes onto look at how Japanese designers have taken American classics and are now exporting them back to America but with a Japanese twist through street-wear brands such as A Bathing Ape and denim companies such as Kapital. If the illustrations and photographs were in colour it would be a six-star book.
