Better to have it, than not..
Just of how the world today, I would rather have it than not have it. The ferro rod is short in my opinion, I would prefer to have the length to strike it. But its one of those items, it does not take up much estate, throw it on your keys and out the door! I always have multiple ways to create a fire, as I see it as a essential to have. You can either learn the newest trend of dancing on tiktok or learn to survive if you are in a SOL situation! LOL

Great EDC rods for my keychain.
I have larger rods, a couple in fact, and they mean business. However, they’re heavy. Too heavy for EDC. These are small, and easily slip on my key chain to go unnoticed until needed. Once the coating is removed, they spark just fine. I have a couple of multitools with me, and my pocket knife has a wide back edge I can use to spark, so that’s really not a problem. In an emergency situation, I don’t think putting some scratches on any of these things is going to be my first worry. If you are looking for something that strikes and you can keep with the rods, look at “bayite Striker-Pro High Speed Steel Striker for Ferro Rod Fire Starter,” also on Amazon. They work beautifully, can also hang on your keychain, and you get three for the price.

exactly as expected
Note that the are kinda short. Best for use as an emergency flint you want packed into a small emergency kit (as in the SAS survival guide), so for a general use flint you might want a longer one with a handle. But this one definitely works. The pack comes with two. They even come in a nice little metal box you could re-use. You have to scrape through the outer black coating until you get to the shiny part before it will begin to spark. It would be nice if this also came with a small saw-blade for striking, but it doesn't advertise that. You get exactly what it says you get.I would buy again. In fact I may buy again. The only real concern with buying such tiny flint rods is finding a good iron striker for sparking. Cheap scissors work very well. That is my solution. Buy some cheap iron scissors. If you need something smaller, then cut them to size using bolt cutters. Use any edge of the blade to create a spark. This way you don't damage your favorite knife.

Great rod for size and price, but the labels on the container drove me insane!!!
I would have given these a 5/5 but for one thing... the great little package they came in is perfect for making into a tin for carrying tinder, accelerants, making char cloth, etc. But I've spent the past hour with "Goo Gone" cleaning off all the sticky residue from the cheap ass labels and tape they stuck all over it. Come on, guys... you KNOW people are going to be reusing that very nice container; don't gunk it up with all that crap which is nearly impossible to clean off!!! Oh, 3 of 5 stars on easy to hold because let's face it, it's not... but given the size what can you expect. With the key ring in (or a piece of paracord through it) to secure a grip, it's very usable.
