Good quality lower end and entry level Daler Rowney paint
My partner works in a school as an Art Teacher, so I asked her to review these paints for me. She purchases and uses Daler Rowney on a daily basis, so tends to know a thing or two about these paints. Her view was that these paints as a basic, starter gouache set are very good. Compared to other basic brands, they are much better. She then carried out a comparison between these paints and Daler Rowney’s high end gouache paints. When comparing the two, it is possible to see the differences. These paints are thinner in consistency and in order to get the same opacity as the higher end achieves in one layer, you would need at least two layers of these paints to reach the same flat colour. She noted the same with mixing the colours, where it is possible to see a marked difference between this ‘simply’ range and the higher end Daler Rowney. However, compared to other cheaper, basic gouache paints, these are significantly better. She did note that the white was a slightly creamy colour, so if you want pure white, go for a higher quality paint. Compared to the higher end Daler Rowney, you’d be paying almost three times as much for six tubes of paint, so these are a good price for what you are getting. They are also manufactured in England. To conclude, if you are looking for an entry level, starter set of gouaches to get you going, you could do a lot worse than purchasing these. A Worth While Brand
You cannot go wrong with Daler-Rowney if you are wanting to get serious with your art work. This us a company that has been producing paint for decades and a brand I'm very knowledgeable of being that I have used their products and their paints since taking my GCSE'S back in 1988 and using all the way through art college as well to two design degrees. The difference with this set compared to sets I have used previously us the swap from viridian green to a sap green instead. I actually think this is a better move as viridian green was quite hard to work with when needing to mix certain tones especially if you are a beginner and not quite hot on your colour tone mixing. The thing with gouache paints is you can either have them as a solid colour if wash them right down to the level of a watercolour paint and thus very versatile. In this pack you get the tobal colours of Black and White as well as Lemon Yellow, Crimson Red, Ultramarine and Sap Green. Very easy to mix and blend on to any palette before use and a nice smooth paint to work with. A really good box for the complete beginner

The paint doesn't rub off no matter how many times I used an eraser on it- that's amazing!
This is my first time using gouache paint so I looked up videos to help. After it dries, it becomes chalky and feels weird to touch- I tried watering it down to see if I was using it wrong but it feels like that either way. I mean, I still could be using it incorrectly but I don't think I am?They say the gouache is meant to dry fast but it takes roughly 20 minutes.I adore the fact I can wet the paint and rework it- it helped a ton when I was painting a cat and colouring in the background. It’s a little annoying though, I messed up and painted a red ribbon but I ended up wanting to cover it, however whenever I tried the red would just smudge everywhere since it was trying to blend with the cream colour.I added detail using colouring pencils after the paint dried, and it didn't fade no matter how many times I tried to erase my pencil mistakes. It doesn’t dilute well so the colours tend to be opaque no matter how much water I use, I also used over half the white gouache when I was doing a small square painting (and I was trying to be sparing with it). And it’s not vibrant like the colours on the tubes.I’m a complete beginner with gouache and I had an okay time with this bundle, however I doubt I’ll use the ones from Daler-Rowney again.

Disappointing and confusing
I first used Gouache paints at art college and loved the density of them when painting, and I’ve used them ever since when canvas painting. These I’m not sure of. When I first squeezed the paint out each tube it was very watery and not thick how I remember gouache being. The packaging on the ones I received as shown in the photo says Opaque Watercolour Gouache so it’s a little confusing. Are they supposed to be Gouache? Watercolours? Or Gouache Watercolours? Now if these are simply meant to be watercolours then they’re semi-ok. They do leave brush strokes whilst painting and blending as you can see when I’ve tested it, so not the best watercolours compared to a set I already own, but ok for beginners for the price. Gouache paint is meant to be more opaque (less see through) than watercolour, but these aren’t at all as you can see. And I’m not sure how the packaging can be printed to call them opaque watercolours when opaque means less see through, and watercolours are see through, hence why the confusion. With gouache I’ve used previously from Daler-Rowney I’ve sung nothing but high praise for the quality, but for these I’m sadly disappointed.
