Its two pieces, connected components or branches, are mirror images like two infinite bows. These are one of four variations of conic sections created with intersections of plane and double cone Ñ others being parabola, ellipse and circle, a special case of an ellipse. If the plane intersects both halves of a double cone but doesnÕt pass through the apexes of the cones, then the conic shape is a hyperbola.
