Masterclass German (Learn German with the Michel Thomas Method)

Ok, I have reviewed Total German and Perfect German, now comes Masterclass! I own all three courses and have completed all three. This has been a prime experience in learning for me. It's almost as though I have lived with a German speaking family for 6 months. I feel like I have gained that much knowledge of German. Masterclass comes on 2 CDs, and this time there are no students, just Michel himself. He asks in the beginning that you use the pause button on your device when he says a sentence in English, so you can take time to formulate the German translation in your head before you speak. You'll have to hit that pause button frequently and quickly, because he pretty much goes nonstop throughout. You can also just listen if you like and then review. Using that pause button is most helpful though, because that will force you to think and speak on your own. Don't worry if you make a mistake, that's how you learn!These 2 CDs consist of Michel going from one phrase and sentence to the next, first in English, then translated into German. He does offer some explanations and asides along the way, but not as many as in the previous courses, because by now you shouldn't need them. New words and everyday phrases are introduced constantly, so this is not a just a repetition of the previous material. There is certainly some of the previous material presented here, but the majority of it is new. I only wish there were more!After having completed all 3 courses of Michel Thomas German, I can truthfully say that it was worth what I paid for it, and it was much less expensive than Rosetta Stone. I learned a lot from RS before I started Michel Thomas, but had I bought Michel Thomas German first, I seriously doubt I would have bought RS. Speaking from my own experience, the Michel Thomas method is just ideal for beginners, and will get you speaking in no time. I feel comfortable with verb conjugations and sentence structure, and I am now in the process of increasing my vocabulary along with listening to native German speakers on YouTube and interacting with my German friends. I am trying to immerse myself in German as often as I can without actually going to Germany! I plan to do that, too.All in all, this was money well spent, and I highly recommend it as a way to get started and to establish a good, solid foundation in the language that you can quickly build upon.

the recording quality is very poor.Especially between the Students. Michel Thomas is very clear. But the students all sound like mickey mouse.

The results are nothing short of incredible!(By the entire course I refer to all 'sub-courses': Start, Total, Perfect, Masterclass).At many points along the way there's a substantial sense of accomplishment. First, when finishing the first 2 hours of the course, you are already familiar with several sentence structures. By the end of the Total course, You reach a point where you have a solid grasp of basic to intermediate sentence structures, and by the end of the Perfect course you get a very firm grasp of all sentence structures in use, being able to both understand sentences in German, and construct your own, no matter how complex they may be.It took me around 70 hours of listening, spread over 3.5 months to finish the courses, mostly listening to the recordings while driving! By 70 hours I refer to the time I spent on the courses, which includes pausing the recordings, rewinding, etc. No homework was required, no extra work of any kind.Note, as you'll often read in reviews of the method, Michel's accent in the 4 languages he taught was far from native-like. However, this poses little to no problem. This is because he does put an emphasis on pronunciation key points, which, if mastered, allow you to be perfectly understood. To further help with pronunciation, on the segments that focus on vocabulary, you have native German speakers, who read in German the sentences you are asked to translate from English.So, in conclusion, I highly recommend courses by Michel Thomas!

Cannot fault this guy and his methods of teaching languages. Simply a master.God rest him.

I recently purchased the Michel Thomas Master Class German Language Discs.I have been a regular purchaser of the Michel Thomas Method and purchasedall the the series from beginner to the German Language Builder.You can imagine my surprise when I put on the discs of Master Class to findthat it is a repeat of the Michel Thomas Language Builder discs. Absolutelya complete duplication.There is nothing on the box of Master Class to say that it had been publishedbefore.This is definitely a way to make more money by publishing it underanother title. This should not be allowed. And at a cost of £40 sterling tofind that you already have it under another name.It should not be allowedunder the trade descriptions act.Definitely a money making racket. I will neverbuy another Michel Thomas course again and will tell all my friends to do thesame.
