CLEP® College Composition 2nd Ed., Book + Online (CLEP Test Preparation)

So far, so good.
Fairly easy read so far, will update later I've read more than one chapter. Had a problem logging into the online portion with my product code. I called the help number listed on the website, and a kinda rude lady fixed it for me pretty quickly. Will update after I take the exam because I think that's probably the true test of the book's worth.

Decent book to get the basics. But almost unbearable to use because of all the grammatical errors and incorrect answers.
Okay I have not taken the CLEP examination yet so I will update this review after my test next week. This book seems decent, however I have several complaints: (Notice my good use of punctuation) 1.There is no difference between the in-book practice test and the ones you take online 2. The chapters covering College Composition is fairly small. I will probably review the modular section just to get more practice. My worst performing section was Rhetorical Analysis and the examples cover literally just a few points and the rest of the chapter talks about the obvious: tone and audience which I think the lay person can mostly figure out using reasoning. Most of the the test questions actually don't even ask about tone or audience. The examples to really practice rhetorical analysis have only 3 passages. 3. There are many grammatical errors throughout the book, which should be an obvious NO-NO from a book designed to teach you about these things. I especially like how they say to evaluate something in the first paragraph and then evaluate something from the 2nd paragraph, but the entire essay has no breaks in it and all appears to be simply one paragraph. 4. When reviewing your answers there is an explanation next to it, but a lot of the reasonings will only state "Option D is the only obvious choice" That is the worst explanation to give someone. If it was that obvious then I wouldn't have gotten it wrong in the first place. The reasoning should in a brief statement notify the ready why the other choices were not correct. Some of the answers do seem to be a close-call but the author fails to elaborate. If I pass the test come next week then I will upgrade this review to 4 Stars, but at the moment I am not too impressed.MY SUGGESTIONS:1. Hire someone to proof read your own grammatical and punctual errors2. Make the online tests different than the tests found in the book so that a person can get more practice.EDIT AGAIN: I am getting sick and tired of finding wrong answers in this book. E.G., Practice Test #2 Question #1: states that option (B): "was" is the correct answer however after double checking I can confirm that it is incorrect to say "A group of students WAS chosen to represent..." while it was originally correct as "A group of students WERE chosen to represent" and thus the correct answer is (E) no errors....freaking ridiculous!RULES for WAS vs WERE: "were" is plural-past while "was" is singular past. This does not fall under the subjunctive rule.I now edit my review to reflect only 2 STARS.............So many freaking mistakes. I should be confident that the answer keys are correct however now I realize that I have to double check the book answer key just to make sure they are in fact correct or incorrect. What a freaking hassle.LAST EDIT because I am getting tired of correcting the answers in this book:Practice Test #2 , Revision skills Question #6:"In James short story Eveline, the "key" character's fearful personality..."The book says that more correctly key should be replaced with "title"HOWEVER, According to Webster-Merriam dictionary: Title does not have this meaning. Even when examining the synonyms for Title; it does not work in this sentence! Title is also not an adjective. But, "key" does work! And it isdefined as paramount or crucial importance! Synonyms of "key" include fundamental, leading, major, main, vital. But hell what do I know?? I don't have a PhD in English like the authors of this book. Maybe they are using a dictionary and thesaurus that they authored as well because I cannot find the context of their usage anywhere on the internet. Pretty sad considering these authors are supposed to be the experts in this field of study. I am beginning to think that my rating of 2 stars is perhaps a bit too generous.

4 days studying and passed.
They say to study for 6 weeks prior to testing. I studied for 4 days and passed. The biggest thing that threw me off, however, was that the essays were hand-written and not typed. Oh well, still passed.Word of advice though, give yourself more time that 4 days to go through this book and the online practice tests, that was stressful.

Very good book! It gives you the various types of questions asked during the exam and also has sample essays so you can get an idea of exactly what the examiners are looking for. Also, has sample tests and explanations , so you can review your answers. I studied for about 1 and a half - 2 weeks and passed the exam.

I was happy with this reference
I was happy with this reference. Passed the test with a decent score after reading through the material twice. The online tools website doesn't look like it has any SSL so I didn't risk using the coupon included with the book. I did fine without it.

perfect book
I prepared for this exam for a week and was able to pass and got 50 in the exam. The course material was appropriate and prepare the candidate for exam. This exam is difficult in the time duration as it is difficult to answer all 90 questions after reading passages in 90 minutes. so speed is very important in this exam.

Nice book for studying!
This book helps me a lot though I did not pass the test by one point. It is useful and has a lot information. I did find out one incorrect answer but the main part is fine. They will tell you why the answer is B not C. It has examples and explanations as well.
