Four Symphonies in Full Score (Dover Orchestral Music Scores)

It's hard to beat the price of this Dover reprint of Johannes Brahms's edition of 4 Schubert symphonies. Moreover, it's clearly printed on pretty decent paper. The problem is less with Dover's reprint than with the original Breitkopf & Härtel engraving. Movement numbers are omitted: new movements are identified by tempi only. There aren't any measure numbers. And for each movement, the distribution of orchestral parts is notated only once, on the first set of staves in the movement. As Schubert sometimes used a quite large ensemble, this can be very confusing once you get deep in the weeds.Dover's Beethoven and Brahms symphony editions don't use B&H, and have parts labelled throughout. Even though the Dover volumes of Mozart's piano concertos are B&H, the ensemble is smaller so it's easier to keep the parts straight as you're listening; and the layout is more varied, so that anyway various parts are often labelled on intermediate pages of a movement. In contrast, you may find the vast and featureless layouts of the Schubert scores a bit austere and disorienting unless you use them continually. (Dover's Schumann symphony scores have the same affliction.)

It is How I expected. Besides than analysis, You can definitely use it for conducting as well.

Reading along with these books is a great way to listen to classical music.It's more like reading a novel because I'm so easily distracted when listeningto a long piece of music. I don't need any special musical knowledge, and get amuch clearer sense of the different voices. I'm surprised how much more Iremember later after following along with a full score. And you can play bits on aguitar or recorder - very cool.

This score is typical Dover. The quality depends on whatever original edition they are using as source. So, regarding printing quality, this one is ok.The three stars don't really apply to Dover, but to the fact that the music printed here follows Brahms' edition. It would be nice, and it is passed the time, to have Schubert's original text. This would clear up where are all the accents that Brahms interpreted as decrescendo, so on and so forth.

Exactly what I wanted, needed, and what I received...YES!

This is a good collection of the more important Schubert symphonies. The print is pretty small, but so is the price so who can argue!

Este tipo de ediciones de partituras orquestales son imbatibles en cuanto al precio. Únicamente echo en falta que vengan la abreviaturas de los instrumentos puestas en todas las páginas. Pero suficiente para disfrutar de ellas

Bella edizione, ottima leggibilità, bella carta e buona praticità come tutte le edizioni Dover... peccato che come al solito manchi la numerazione delle battute!!!!!
