Great start
Just started foraging. Really like the questions in the beginning that lead you to specific species.

Great gift for beginners or expert
This book came recommended to me from a ‘pro’ who informed me that you “won’t be laugh at” for showing up with it as it’s respected and used by experienced mushroom folk here in the PNW. I purchased this as a gift to complete a starter foraging kit. Great photos; lots of info. If you’re into mushrooms you’ll probably dig this.

A good basic identification guide
If you need a basic mushrooms identification guide that can fit most anywhere then this is a must buy, but if you need a very in depth identification book for mushrooms, you're going to need a bigger book.

For the fungus curious, a must have reference guide
My first mushroom foraging book, it's been a permanent part of my pack for over a year. It comes with me on nearly every hike. Arora does a great job with helping ambitious mushroom hunters key out their finds. There's so much to learn about mushrooms that outside of maybe 4 or 5 species, most of my finds don't get eaten, which is usually a risk vs. reward analysis. Still, I frequently bring some samples back to check spore prints and some microscopy there's quite a lot of great info that's available on mycology and this book has been a great resource for me. I recommend it, highly!

Definitely the best mushroom book ever
It’s small enough to bring on woodland excursions, with excellent explanations as to what to look for and what to avoid, including good pictures

All the Rain Promises . . .
I have bee hunting mushrooms for pretty much 70 years. I grew up in the post WWII years in Germany, when the Morgenthau Plan of the USA had clamped down on industrial and hence agricaultural production in Germany, and had imposed misery, hunger and starvation on Germany, which finally had surrendered. Foraging had become a matter of sheer survival. Fortunately, my father was a pharmacist, and hence a professional advisor to mushroom hunters. He primed me on mushroom hunting from age 4. I kept up the passion ever since.Coming to the Pacific North West of the North American Continent (Vancouver Island, BC, Canada) in 1986, some 25 years ago, I had to relearn much of what I had been familiar with in Central Europe. The 60 or so species of fungi, I had been able to chose from on my foraging expeditions over there were reduced to nothing, and slowly over the years were increased to something like 30 species. I yearned for a guide to advance me!This book (All the Rain Promises . . . ) is the best of all the ones I purchase in pursuit of increasing my knowledge. And although I am a firm believer in the fact that any mushroom hunter, who cares for his/her life and that of his/her loved ones should have many guide books, and use them judiciously, I would recommend this one (All the Rain Promises . . . ) for any one who dares to invest in only one . . .Mushroom hunting is a great passion, a passion that sometimes allows you to survive, and this is the best book to guide you in its pursuit, particularly in the Pacific North West!
