Great Product - Strongly Reccomend
I recently bought a bike for fitness purposes and I've always noticed when driving my car that bikes are notoriously invisible at night. Its too hot during the day to ride so I knew I wanted to ride around at night but I was very concerned about visibility.I first wired my own custom 12v power system, then ordered an automotive LED fog light to use as a headlight & this LED light to use as a tail light:http://www.amazon.com/LEMONBEST%C2%AE-General-Daytime-Running-Driving/dp/B00IPDQWLK/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1463418174&sr=1-2&keywords=red+led+drlWith my custom head & tail light setup I was much brighter and more visible than those crappy little bike lights on the market, but still had very little side visibility. I was originally planning to use some type of LED strip lights on the frame of the bike, until I found this Monkey Light product.I first ordered one M210 Monkey Light just to test it out, and I was very pleased with the results. They are very bright and make your bike extremely visible from the sides. So I ordered a second one for my other tire. You can start to see the patterns at around 10mph, but the light doesn't really fill the whole wheel as in the marketing photos unless you can pedal really fast, like 25mph.I noticed there are two plugs coming off the battery pack (which mounts on the wheel hub to power the M210) and you only need a single plug to power the M210, so I did some more investigating and I found out that you can plug in TWO M210 units into 1 battery pack. Now even at 10mph the whole wheel is filled by the pattern and light. Also I think with two M210s per wheel, the wheel is better balanced. Now don't get me wrong, for visibility ONE M210 per wheel is more than sufficient. It is so bright, and so visible its just not necessary to have two per wheel. I don't believe there is any added benefit to visibility as it pertains to safety by adding a second M210 on each wheel.HOWEVER, when it comes to visibility as it pertains to aesthetics, having two M210s per wheel looks AWESOME! The whole wheel is filled brightly with the pattern you choose, and you can even mix and match colors and patterns for interesting effects (since each M210 is controlled separately).Anytime I ride by people, they always look, along with the occasional "cool" or "that's awesome" type comments. And I've had more than 1 person ask me where I got them.In terms of cost, I spent about $140 to get 4 units (2 per wheel) and it is a little pricey but well worth it when you consider that this is safety equipment. Now this is overkill, you really only need 2 units (1 per wheel), but I just like the look of having 4.If you save yourself from being hit or even having a near hit just ONE TIME, it MORE THAN justifies the cost. It is also MADE IN THE USA which I love! I would gladly pay more for items made in the USA.

Love my monkeys
The only problem with the monkey lights is the price. BUT !1] You get what you pay for.2] Designed and made in the USA3] If they keep you out of the hospital ONE time they have more than paid for themselves. So get one, but bet you end up buying more. Best thing was when I got a pair for my wife, so I can now watch em too. We are a multi monkey family.A possible problem is riding at night you will attract so much attention that anyone riding with you without Monkeys may disappear. Also be extremely careful if you ever again have to ride a no monkey light bike at night because you get used to knowing you are seen. It's hard to go back to ninja riding in the dark. The ME M210 installs easily with 5 zip ties [ Metal zip ties are included for theft deterrence, but I don't intend to leave my bike in harms way so I go with the nylon.]The battery pod on the wheel hub will power 2 Monkey lights. I guess that means half the battery life but they still seem to keep blinging a long time. The batteries on the hub keeps most of the weight non rotational and makes changing the batteries easy. Seems like every 2 months with nightly use ? They go red when the power is low but your still pretty visible, just not quite as beautiful.SO I recommend Monkey Electric most heartily. Children will jump for joy, women will dance and sing, Men will do something manly, drunks will scream random stuff and stoners will say WOW MAN when you pass by. You WILL be noticed.O and customer service is the best too. I had a dead Monkey and they shipped me a replacement RIGHT out.

Fun while they lasted - not for subzero temps
UPDATE: After posting the review below, a representative for Monkey Electric contacted me and asked for more detail, including the picture below. The light was only 18 months old and they are sending me another unit. I moved my rating from 3 to 4 stars because of the customer service. Why only 4? I would have preferred that the wire didn't break. And it also took my post on the Amazon site to get the manufacturer's response. I had tried twice via the web site without success.ORIGINAL REVIEW: This light is great while it worked, but it only worked for 2 Minneapolis winters. I ride all winter and have become really glad to have these lights during the winter solstice time of the year - dark going to work and dark coming home.Recently, we have had a streak of subzero temperatures and this bike lives outside. One morning, a relatively light encounter with a bike rack caused the wire to fracture - flush to the connector - so no possibility of a splice. Since the connector is proprietary, I need a new one. Several e-mail to Monkey Lights have resulted in no response, so the lights are dead! However, if you don't bike in really cold weather and ride at night, I would recommend these.

Great lights, some drawbacks, very pricey
I have used them for over a year and they have worked well.Pros:* Bright, even on the faint setting, these increase your visibility by a lot.* Colorful, many different colors and combinations.* Waterproof, cycled through the rain a couple times, no problem* Battery life, they last surprisingly long with a single set of batteries, haven't had to change them.Cons:* No motion detection. I mounted them on my front wheel and I have to rotate the wheel to the correct position so I can reach them to turn them on. I wouldn't mount them on the back wheel since you can't reach them when you're on the bike. This is really a bummer, my $15 spoke lights on the back wheel go on automatically in the dark* You don't really get to see the pattern like in the picture, it's more of a moving, flashing dot. Also the pattern doesn't line up after one rotation. If you're riding, you see one or two flashing colors, the patterns are barely identifiable.* Pricey, for half the price you can buy simpler spoke lights with motion detection.

Good but the illustrations are an exaggeration
I like this product. I appreciate that it arrived the day after i placed the order. I appreciated the three free re-chargeable batteries (made in China and got very hot when being charged, so i used three AA alkaline). I thought a lot before buying this light. I'm a mid-60's male and I ride for exercise and pleasure. My location is rural- small town, and has the usual quota of drivers who suffere from selective vision. Being visible is very important to me, hence. the purchase of the light. This is NOT a substitute for a primary front and rear. It does not illuminate the field of view. It is not as conspicuous as a conventional front and rear. It does not fill the wheel with light, as shown in the adverts until you approach 15mph and then the full effect isn't really seen until above 20mph. Hence my opinion that the adverts are an exaggeration. At traffic lights and other stationary situations it iis simply a light on the side of the wheel. That said, there is much that i like about this gizmo. The lights are bright, and the movement does catch the attention of people around. A quick look in a shop window as i whizzed passed showed a reasuuring colourful glow from my front wheel. The construction is good, and seems fit for purpose. It is well thought out. Congratulations to the design team. Although fitting anything between the spokes of a bicycle is a bit fiddly, it was relatively easy to fit into place, and is also secure. Switching "on" and "off" seems to require close attention, and the endless option of combinations of light patterns and finding their settings will keep you amused on those rainy days in the shed. But, it works. I am happy with my purchase. I have it fitted on my front wheel. I am not convinced I need one for the rear wheel. Partly because I have a pair of panniers and the light will be partially covered. I think I'd prefer an extra conventional red flasher. Check out the competition because that may suit you better, but I am happy to recommend this product if it appeals to you.

Fo'Fun

Happy with purchase so far
Just installed today, very easy to attach.Interesting fact, Already had another battery pack for fairy lights on the Hubs, but Monkey Lights provided nice long zap straps, this allows its straps to snug right over top of another battery pack mounted opposite this one. It still took a pair of pliers and some patience, but they are on there secure for 29 inch wheels.Tested that night, in the rain of course, everything performed beyond expectations, puddles and fairly moderate rain was no problem, the projectors were fine and so was the battery pack.I have a lot of lights on my bike, these are the brightest, even in the dimmer of two brightness settings. Lots of wow factor.Take your time installing, be patient, get it right, these work very well so far.Edit:Several months on, these are still working great on their original batteries. The projectors continue to provide lots of pop when cycling at night. They handle rain and puddles fine. So long as the battery packs on the hubs don't submerge for an extended time, everythings fine. Its very wet where I live.Still highly recommend these. Worth the money, durable, fun for all ages.

Bright, fun, safety feature that brings a smile
I can barely find a fault with this product.I bought my girlfriend a set of the larger lights to go on her MTB a while back and she has loved the way they light up the bike (she usually hates riding so this was my cheeky way of getting her to go faster and ride more often, to "make pretty patterns in the wheels").To date I have yet to change the batteries on hers and I ordered a set of the less in your face M210s. Now I appreciate these aren't cheap but they DO improve your safety by making you more visible, they DO get admiring glances from other bikers and they DO get children pointing at the wheels as you ride by.They are just brilliant and a real feelgood factor to improve biking in general for very little additional weight. Do be warned though that you do need to be going at a fair old speed (approx. 10mph) to get any real patterns appearing in the spokes, I think you can double up with 2 LED panels to one battery pack as the battery unit has a spare connector but this would obviously vary your battery life.Installation is simple, so long as you have a pair of pliers (to really tighten those cable ties) and something to cut the excess ties off, you'll be absolutely golden. I'm relatively handy when it comes to DIY work and it took me perhaps 30 minutes to install 2 sets of these.Great fun, additional safety benefits and weatherproof/long lasting. Can't ask for much more, I love them.

A great gift
I bought these for my husband, who is a keen cyclist. He was not as excited to receive them as I had hoped. He thought they were just a cheap gimmick and was reluctant to put them on his beloved bike. However, he soon changed his mind when he put them on. Now he thinks they are really cool, and is very happy with them! Vibrant lights, very eye catching and attractive. I like knowing that he is more visible when cycling at night, too. All in all, a good purchase.
