I had been using the same manufactured heater with lesser wattage (250w) but they kept stopped working and only lasted one season. Bought this 1000w one because our winters can be well into the minus 20's C. As it turned out we've had an unusually mild winter and my only complaint is that the water in my insulated tank is like soup. I have to unplug it on warm days of course but sure doesn't let the water freeze. Next time I think I'd get a 750w. But very happy with it. Horses leave it alone and it works well.

100 gallon horse trough toasty in 16°F! Have been using these for years with an outlet timer set to go on when temps hit freezing. Horses drink water to stay warm so are well hydrated, and happy drinkers mean less chance of colic. I often catch them standing around the trough feeling the steam rise up. They do add some $ to the power bill but well worth it. These last and last, my oldest one is 6 years old and works perfectly - even stood up to a few mouthy horses pulling them out of the trough by the cord (you can always add some PVC or old garden hose, or keep under a heavy plant pot if you have ones that like to pull it out) A bit pricier than some others, but they are the best and most durable heaters I've tried.

Tested it with the coldest water coming out from the tap in a "full" tub. Overnight, by morning the water's perfectly warm for a comfortable bath. A perfect and safe solution as there is no need to worry about the water boiling. The couple that needed this only had reliable power from their stove, so I coupled this with an inline EFI/re-settable fuse on a 12AWG cord, and a 50' 300V 1600W outdoor electrical cord 14AWG from HomeDepot. The heater's rating is 1000W, 120V, 8.33A, 14.4 ohms per a call to the factory.

I've had this heater for 4 years now and it's still working great! Last week we upgraded our chickens watering system from a 5 gal bucket to a 12 gallon. When I removed the heater I expected it to look rusted or old due to its age and the fact that it has been run 24/7 for 4 winters. It showed no signs of age and is rust resistant! I was pleasantly surprised that it does a great job heating the 12 gallons! The best part about it is you just place it in the tank and plug it in! So easy!

Last winter I had to fill up buckets of hot water from my bathtub and tote it to the goat shed every morning and night. Not fun! With this heater all I need to do is turn it on and wait about 5 to 10 minutes, then the water is steamy & warm. I turn it off and reheat throughout the day as needed. Since goats will chew everything, you need to wrap the cord in a cord protector. I bought this cord protector here on Amazon, here’s the link.
