This is an excellent read. John Elderedge talks about the true nature of being a man, explaining a man needs three things:1. A battle to fight2. An adventure to live3. A beauty to loveHe goes into detail, using the Bible as a frame of reference and also talking about ancient cultures and the right of passage from boyhood to manhood, something missing today in Western society.I loved the bit when he said that in the Masaai tribe a man must kill a lion first before he is allowed to court a woman.This is a must-read from every man and father, in order to restore manhood to where it was originally designed by God.

Authentic masculinity must be one of the most misunderstood concepts both in popular culture and the church. To clarify our understanding, John Eldredge takes Jesus as the perfect example of all that it means to be a man - he is the Person every man longs to become and every woman yearns for in her man. From there Eldredge takes us on the masculine adventure which turns boys into real men who are liberated to be tender-hearted and compassionate as well as strong and courageous. His style is honest, engaging and insightful on issues which will resonate deeply in every masculine heart. A must read for every teenage boy and man (and also every woman who longs to understand the workings of a man's true heart).

I have read this book several times, but more importantly I have applied it into my life, John writes things I needed to hear from a source other than my imagination, ie, confirming what most of us know but lack the confidence to bring about.I have attended 2 'wild at heart' courses with guys I never met before and have seen deeper relationships develop.My own son has also been on one after reading the book and now my son in law is investigating ! Essential reading.

Since reading this book years ago, I still manage to purchase it as a gift for friends and family. Definitely a great insight for any man to understand their relationship with God, their relationships with women and how love is meant to be.

I did find the beginning a little deep. But this is from a womans perspective! However, I found it extremely helpfull & very relevant to the problems that my daughter is experiencing with her fiance! Certainly leads to a better understanding of the oposite sex!!I have also ordered 'Captivating' ( which is the same kind of book but from a womans pont of view) for her to read. I know that my daughter will be more encouraged to take her further step into marriage after reading these books. Really enlightening & down to earth! Bless you John & Stasi.

This book allowed me to find the answers I've been wrestling with. John is an amazing author and captivates your feelings and emotions. His definition of our role in this life is spot on. Reading this book was not a coincidence, God knew the impact it would have on me. 100% recommend I will be reading it again and again.

I bout this book for a dear friend who I know has a lot of pain suffered throughout his childhood and I know God is using it to heal and grow love into those dark places.

This book has been helpful for my wife to understand more about how men really think, what they intrinsically need, and how she can help me to feel more confident, supported, free and secure.

What a read. I really got something out of every single chapter and was able to relate it to my life. A book I reckon every man should read.
