Q: Could this stapler be used for crafts, like Balsa wood up to 1/2" or thick man-made fabrics?

I don’t see why not, going through a half inch of paper is a lot tougher than balsa wood.

Q: Staples beautifully, but couldn't remove the staples from the paper when I used a regular staple remover. Do I need a heavy duty staple remover?

The fewer the number of sheets stapled the more is bent over on the back. This makes it too much the office stapler staple remover. You need to straighten the bent over “legs” to make removal easier..

Q: Can this be used for stapling booklets? Or does it not reach that far?

This is a well-built unit that takes the frustration out of trying to staple larger numbers of pages but it's definitely not going to work for booklets. The paper insertion path is just too short.
