One Lord, One Plan, One People: A Journey Through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation Paperback – August 1, 2011

What a shame that such a helpful and well written book is given anything less than 5 star reviews. I have been studying my Bible for 34 years and I have read my Bible 42 times (almost 43) and several of its books much more, and I can tell you that this book is extremely well done, and helpful. If you are looking for a full fledged commentary, then don’t buy it! If you are looking for a highly technical book, don’t buy it! However, if you want to get connections, important chronological info, very helpful insights and observations and historical context, then BUY THE BOOK!

I haven't read the whole thing but did a survey/skim of the book. In case you're wondering, the book is not an unfolding of the story nor a thematic approach to seeing all of the Bible--as some biblical theologies are. Instead, it is a book by book look at how each book affirms the title (one Lord, plan, etc). In that sense if you're not convinced about a center of the Bible or some unifying themes, this may be helpful. What is also helpful compared to other books that may do this with either the OT or the NT is that you get both, and a more unified view of Scripture. Since you can't view the table of contents before you buy it, I thought I'd give you a heads up.I can't really give it a solid rating since I've not looked at it closely but (theologically from an Evangelical viewpoint) I am glad at this point to give it 4 stars.

I was disappointed to read that the author denies that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for all believers in Christ. The Bible clearly teaches the baptism in the Holy Spirit as part of the starting point for all believers (Mt 3:11,Gal3:2, Acts 2:38, 19:2)

A great summary of each book of the Bible that helps to provide context and links each OT book to Jesus. Highly readable and has helped me with my personal Bible study. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a readable summary of the Bible.
