Emits heavy dark smoke.
These a lightweight but a bit bulky for backpacking. Each puck dies burn for about an hour, and I've usually split them in half, since I don't need that much cooking tube for backpacking insta-food. I do notice, the last bit of cooking time starts to cool off. These would be rated higher if they burned cleaner. This is why I won't buy them again. They send up dark black smoke, coating the pans (which is inconvenient) and making me cough (health safety issue?). I have considered that it may be my backpacking stove, which can use multiple fuel sources: wood, alcohol, and maybe a few others. However, I've noticed when I burn twigs in my stove, it is a much cleaner smoke, leaving me to prefer that over this dark-chemical-smoke "natural" product.

Now I have a great combination for heating water and cooking when the power ...
I purchased these fuel block to go with my Ohuhu portable stainless steel stove and they are ideal for that use. I live in an apartment with limited back yard and wanted a way to heat food and water. I already had two Kelly Kettles for water, but they were not convenient to use with the material I could find in the yard. When I found the Ohuhu stove it showed the fuel as a suggested addition and once I had them I realized how well they would work for both that stove and the Kelly Kettles. Now I have a great combination for heating water and cooking when the power goes out or when camping in the summer. They also make it easy to start an outdoor fire even if the tinder is a bit moist. A point of interest, the Ohuhu stove fits very nicely into the Alpine Stowaway 1.1 L pot.

Camping ease
Works better for small cookstoves than wood. Burns longer with less ash than wood which makes the process simpler. I used this with a Ohuhu Potable Stainless Steel Wood Burning Camping Stove. I only needed to burn part of a disc at a time. Would buy this product again.

Lasts and burns great. If I was mfg this
Lasts and burns great. If I was mfg this, I would just make them a smaller size so that the person using didn't have to break / cut them up.

True Test
Well I can't just take anyone's word for it. I had to test the claims. And yes it burns for at least 45 minutes. I have been hunting and camping for years. This is a welcomed fire starter to my packs. Light weight and works well.

Burns well but . . .
The block lit quickly and is lightweight and easy to pack. It is crumbly if you decide to quarter the pieces. There was a great deal of soot on our pots though and they don't burn completely away.

Unimpressive and disappointing.
Does not light as easily, is not as efficient, and certainly does not reach temperatures that are in competition with Alcohol, Esbit or Sterno products. I was expecting far more than this product actually offered on a family backpacking trip. Luckily, I brought along other means to cook, as this just did not do the trick. I now have an expensive fire starter I guess.Positives: It is light weight. It does burn for 30 minutes, and remains warm for another 15 (give or take).
